Inside Erdogan's torture chambers (Turkey)
EU Observer ^ | 6. Dec, 07:37 | Leighann Spencer- BRUSSELS

Nato's Parliamentary Assembly recently published what some have called a "scathing" report on Turkey.

Until now, Nato had given almost no input on the country's deterioration in human rights and rule of law, despite Turkey being one of its largest member states.

The report mentioned the impact of emergency rule, elimination of independent media, and related concerns.

But it left unmentioned other grave violations - namely, the fate of the thousands of people falsely imprisoned in the post-coup crackdown - including officials of Nato itself.

One such Nato official is Cafer Topkaya, a Turkish man who was serving in Belgium at the time of the 2016 coup attempt.

In October that year, he was told to return home for an "urgent" meeting.

He intended to stay for two days, but 16 months later, he was fleeing Turkey after having been held without evidence.

Nato provided no formal recognition of his plight, nor any assistance for his release. This is his story.

Cafer's story

Cafer attended the Turkish naval academy from 1992 to 2000, when, upon graduating, he joined the service.

After dedicating a further 15 years to the navy, he was seconded to the Nato post in Belgium.

He relocated with his family - a wife and three young children. For that next year - 2015 to 2016 - they lived in Brussels.

On the night of 15 July 2016, he was shocked to hear of the attempted putsch in his home country.

In the following months, Cafer saw several of his Nato colleagues return to Turkey only to be arrested, but he never thought something like that would happen to himself - an innocent man.

On 10 October, he received a message from his superiors in Turkey, instructing him to return for an "urgent" meeting on standardisation issues.

Like many others, including EU countries' intelligence services, Cafer believes that a list of those viewed as a threat to the regime was prepared long before the coup attempt.

Many here thought from the beginning of the Coup, that it was a fake Coup to eliminate those who are not supporters of Erdogan the Islamist. It would not surprise me if Brennan helped them target officers who were too close to NATO.

16 months in prison under torture changed this loyal NATO officer. He was finally able to escape Turkey. His explanation is both troubling and convincing by his detailed story.

And Congress believes them when they say they have an audio recording of Khushoggi’s death. By the way congress did you forget this country has slaughtered 60 million fetuses?

I am not a Turk. But I knew as soon as that story appeared about the “rebellion” that it was a set up by Sultan Pig Edogan
to purge all opposition.

I think it was the consensus here that was so from the beginning.

It has become very clear since then, that is exactly what happened. And it is also clear that NATO is in deep denial of that fact.

Erdogan. The very first foreign leader called by Hussein.

Why?

Zero planned to hand the Middle East to Erdogan and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Up till now Turkey was one of the few Islamic countries that was not a tyrannical hellhole. It maintained its civilized status by having the Army enforce the separation of Mosque and State. That is why Erdogon, the now Islamic dictator , went after the Armed forces. I have little doubt he is now the most evil force operating in Europe. Worse than Soros and Putin.

Good advice.

It would be fatal for me. But I have no interest in going there.

did he have rape rooms for his sons to use?
did he disembowel wives in front of prisoners?
did he chop off hands of dissidents?

CNN covered up torture, abuse, and murder under Saddam Hussin to keep their Baghdad bureau.

My sources tell me that the rooms are spartan, but the food is surprisingly good with generous portions.

I believe your source is wrong. The description you have might be what they tell the inspectors.

Reality has always been, nobody wants to be in a Turkish Prison. Torture is a given, even for women. And Torture extends to many things including food deprivation.

OK, that is fine. I understand wanting to not be involved. Trump has long stated he did not want to either.

We are better off that ISIS is nearly destroyed in Syria.

How the peace will eventually settle out depends upon how much pressure can be put on Turkey to back away.

Let me remind you that Pastor Brunson lost over 50 lbs while in Turkish prisons.

And he got better treatment than some held there because he was American.
