Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz said Friday that special counsel Robert Mueller's final report "will blur the line between crimes and sins and write a report designed to put" President Trump "in a bad light."
In an appearance on Fox News, Dershowitz said he believes Mueller "wont be able to find any specific violations of federal criminal statutes" unless "vague laws" around obstruction of justice are stretched "beyond recognition."
I dont see any crimes," Dershowitz told host Tucker Carlson. "Collusion itself is not a crime. Using information given by Russia to WikiLeaks would not be a crime unless the campaign participated with WikiLeaks in the hacking itself. Theres no evidence to support that."
"So what Im afraid is going to happen is this special counsel whose job it is only to find crimes, not sins, only crimes, will blur the line between crimes and sins and write a report designed to put the president in a bad light," he continued. "But in the end, they wont be able to find any specific violations of federal criminal statutes unless they stretch these vague laws like obstruction of justice beyond any recognition.
Dershowitz's comments came hours after court filings from special counsel Robert Mueller and federal prosectors in New York were made public.
In a filing, Mueller described Michael Cohen, Trumps former longtime attorney, as having gone to significant lengths to cooperate with his Russia investigation, including meeting with attorneys from Mueller's office on seven occasions and voluntarily providing information on a number of topics.
Mueller also wrote that Cohens information was credible and consistent with other evidence discovered in his special counsel investigation into Russian interference.
In a separate filing, prosecutors recommended that Cohen receive a substantial prison term for several federal crimes, despite his cooperation with ongoing law enforcement investigations, including in Mueller's Russia probe.
The document states that Cohen "acted in coordination with and at the direction of" Trump in steering payments to silence Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, two women claiming they had affairs with Trump, before the 2016 presidential election.
In the filing, Cohen claimed "Individual-1" asked him to approve illegal payments, an apparent reference to then-candidate Trump.
Prosecutors argue that the payments were meant to influence the election, thereby violating campaign finance laws. Cohen previously implicated Trump when he pleaded guilty in August to violating campaign finance laws in relation to the payments.
In a tweet following the filings' release, Trump claimed the documents "totally clear" him of any wrongdoing.
ETC...
It will be basically, 'we can't find any proof but with all these allegations and shady characters around Trump we know he must be guilty of something'.
Guilty by accusations. It will be Trumps' Scarlet Letter.
As Rush said about the recession last time; “I refuse to participate”.
I refuse to participate in this charade and scam and defamation and theft of our money.
I hope PDJT takes that tact and on ANY interview with anyone he helped drag across the finish line, they better, too.
And we will show the world with crystal clarity the traitor that Mueller is.
Does Mueller have authority to charge Trump with sins and condemn him to Washington DC? I wonder.
Mueller report ‘will blur the line between crimes and sins’ to put Trump in bad light
Of this I have no doubt. It was all a charade to undermine Trump in 2020.
That would demonstrate the ethics of a scorpion.
“Of this I have no doubt. It was all a charade to undermine Trump in 2020.”
We no longer have representative government. There are only a few ways this can end.
Again, I want to believe it but past is prologue and I haven’t heard the first shoe drop so I’m not anticipating the second.
Mueller is using the threat of prosecution for imaginary crimes to obtain perjured testimony against the president. And the media and deep state commit equal atrocities to protect Clinton. Morally I dont see this government ever recovering.
We no longer have representative government. There are only a few ways this can end.
And none of them good.
Mueller belongs in prison, imho, not on OUR public payroll!
The first dropped with Flynn but you don’t know from where it came but I do. I knew for a week before it happened. Certain folks in this situation who gather evidence will never reveal themselves but that evidence will be provided to those who need it to prosecute these SOBs and that evidence will be of shocking crystal clarity and not necessarily come in the form of documents. It will come from multiple sources and numerous directions. Too many for the guilty to refute or manage. They will get overwhelmed. The next ones begin next week and they will be alot more visible. Follow John Solomon he is telling it.
Ping to #13.
Yup. That’s all Mueller is doing: a phony smear campaign, funded by the taxpayers so that he and his cronies in the Department of “Justice” can get rid of a guy who might break up the party.
and to make successful people, especially those not in government, very afraid of accepting any nomination in a Trump administration. The left has always attacked Republican nominees but this time is exponentially worse.
Well, that's what they claim we say about the Clintons...so Trump can just offer up Clinton-Empire-Proven defenses like "No Controlling Legal Authority" and "I did not have sexual relations with that woman...Ms. Daniels." :)
When the Mueller probe ends, Trump should put out a report of what a colossal waste of time, tax payers money and personal offence the nation had to suffer at the hands of the Democrats. All because the Democrats lost the election.
To vindicate his position and add offence to injury he should have the justice department sue them all and charge them with treason. Every last one of them in the Clinton/Obama cabal. And then for the next 6 years watch them dance... to see if they can dance their way out of prison.
It's their playground, and they don't want anybody interfering with their chosen wealth redistribution tactics as they build their Road to Utopia.
Yep
