KATOWICE/POLAND - The world of sports must join the effort to tame global warming, and the International Olympic Committee intends to lead the way, it said on Tuesday at UN climate talks in Katowice, Poland.

At the 195-nation negotiations, the IOC and UN launched an initiative aimed to line up verifiable commitments from sports federations and clubs to cut carbon pollution in line with the Paris Agreement.

Less heavy breathing? Walking to away games?

Imagine how much carbon would not be spewed into the atmosphere if we just got rid of the Olympics. Let alone all the wasted energy building facilities that usually just end up rotting after the event is over.

“That calls for capping the rise in Earth’s temperature “well below” two degrees Celsius, and at 1.5 C if possible.”

Or what?

The Soros Foundation et al, won't pay them the full amount for giving thinking people yet another reason not to pay attention to their racket.

Indeed so.
They know as little about science as do our politicians, journalists, and actors.

I agree. Let's never hold an Olympic Games again.

Problem solved.

By shutting down the games.

Otherwise, hypocrites.

OK, OK, no more BBQ beans for the athletes. This should also cut down on the false starts at the races.

building facilities that usually just end up rotting after the event is over.

NYS (Lake Placid) got grief for housing athletes in facilities that were built for use as a prison after the games.

On the other hand, lots of American athletes got grief for deciding forego the Brazilian accommodations, and stay on a cruise ship docked during the games. Didn't really pay attention to the games, so I don't know how many other nationalities also declined the local hospitality.

Climate change (nee warming) is becoming a fanaticism. This is a valid indicator of this status. fanaticism is all encompassing, it does not allow rivals or equals.

Seems like the “sports world” could just shut itself down then. Think of all of the wasted resources with them flying all over the world for competitions, which are useless in the overall scheme of things.

As soon as the “sports world” turns in their collective resignation to “pursue other interests”, I cannot take them seriously about their concerns for gobull warming.

How about scaling down the demands to build what amounts to a small city to host the games? It’s now to the point that almost no place on earth wants/can afford the Winter games.

Desperation. The little people don’t want to pay the price for this folly.

If the IOC believes this they must stop holding sporting events in China and stop taking money from them.

They are one of the biggest polluters in the world.

I’m guessing they won’t put their money where their mouths are.

I promise to decrease my omission of green house gasses by not attending the Olympics or for that any other sports venue. I’m just sayin’.

I feel like the problem with winter sports is scheduling the winter olympics in a country that has no snowfall, because it is too dry in the winter.
