Mick Mulvaney to replace John Kelly as 'acting' chief of staff, Trump says

President Trump on Friday named White House budget director Mick Mulvaney as his new “acting” chief of staff, saying the former South Carolina Republican congressman will replace John Kelly as his top aide.

“I am pleased to announce that Mick Mulvaney, Director of the Office of Management & Budget, will be named Acting White House Chief of Staff, replacing General John Kelly, who has served our Country with distinction,” Trump tweeted. “Mick has done an outstanding job while in the Administration. I look forward to working with him in this new capacity as we continue to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

...

The president said Kelly, who recently announced plans to leave the White House, will stay through 2018.

“John will be staying until the end of the year,” Trump tweeted. “He is a GREAT PATRIOT and I want to personally thank him for his service!”

The president did not say whether Mulvaney will remain as director of the Office of Management and Budget. He also did not detail how long Mulvaney will serve in an “acting” capacity.

Mulvaney is extremely effective at just about anything he does.

Good move. I knew Mulvaney was gonna come back in some form. Anyone who can mastermind replacing locks for the entire building so the idiot Obama boss who thought she had a JOB FOR LIFE would not come to “work”...gets a thumbs up.

A Freeper predicted last week that Mulvaney would be the new chief of staff — and said he’s the smartest guy in the Trump administration ... for whatever that’s worth!

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

I think this "acting" crap is just a negotiating ploy by Trump.

Mulvaney says "I don't want it, Mr. President" and Trump says "how about just trying it out...say Acting COS?" "You'll be doing the country and me an immense favor."

"Whaddya say, Mick?"

Mulvaney: "Oh, heck...okay, Mr. President. What the hell."

Trumps got his hooks into him. He'll most likely relent and accept the job permanently.

Trump's an operator.

It was a Freeper's subjective opinion, and I don't even remember who it was who posted it ... so take the statement for whatever it's worth.

Is that OK with you?

IF had had more details I could likely get some search engine to readily cough up the story, or, a link would be appreciated.

I wonder if it is a “try out” — or if he’s a placeholder for Whittaker.

No, I didn’t. As usual, you’re just a hostile jerk and you read what you want into a post just so you can vent at another Freeper. Grow up and get a life.

Mick is indeed smart. But even more than that, he is effective and gets things done.

I was hoping Trump could entice him when I heard Allen was going to retire.

Can't blame Mulvaney for not wanted the job. It is one of the toughest, most thankless jobs in the WH.

I'll bet even Mulvaney was afraid it might be a "Waterloo" position for him.

If Mick takes the job permanently, I think he'll be find he can not only make a major contribution to the administration and the Country...but that he can also use this job as a door opener to great new things.

He's the perfect choice, IMHO.

This is great news to end the week on.

Not too okay irrespective of who you’re asking. Had your post 5 been written with clarity there would be no contention on this point.

You want others to understand you, others want to understand you. Communicate with care.

I wouldn't think so, but you never know.

The thing about Mulvaney is that he has proven himself to be a can-do guy...and Whitaker looks like he has lots of potential, but he has yet to prove it at the highest levels.

And Chief of Staff is the highest level albeit a gritty, dirty, and thankless job.

If Trump can get Mulvaney to forget about this "acting" crap, the WH just made a huge jump into the future.

BTW, as an aside, I think Mulvaney is also negotiating. That's why he said he would serve only as "acting" COS.

I'll be he told Trump, I'll take the job but only on conditions.

And one of those conditions is he gets to have final say on Trump's twitter account.;-)
