Probably just tired of it. Remember that interior, just like EPA head, is a position where you’re not just fighting the media and the democrats but the government-lifer staff on the payroll who is SUPPOSED to be your employees and direct reports are actively trying to do anything that they can to personally destroy you, too.

I think every administration appointee believes they will be hounded to death by the new Dem congress. They’ll investigate & investigate just to harass them to death. Since RZ’s been effective, they’ll be sure to go after him. Probably wise to leave now.

I’m a little disappointed with this one. He seemed like one of the good guys to have on our side. At the least, he was not the usual lefty Kumbaya type most Interior Secretary’s have been.

There are a couple of conservation organizations I’m familiar with.

Leave No Trace Inc. is all about barely using the land. I once got yelled at by a Leave No Trace guy for tossing a paper plate into a campfire. Until I reminded him that paper was made from wood.

Tread Lightly Inc is another organization. They are more into “go ahead and enjoy your ATV, but be responsible” type conservation.

I always saw Zinke as a Tread Lightly kind of guy.

In Zinke’s case, something has been boiling beneath the surface for the last few months. I haven’t paid close enough attention. When Zinke was having problems, the nation was going through the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation. I was focused on that roadblock. I know he had the president’s support.
It’s probably some procedural thing that would be glossed over for any Dem. It seems like a good man. He was/is a Seal!

One difference between is, his appointees aren't trying to steal everything they can get their hands on while filling up the place with corrupt incompetents and unfits, and abusing the power of their position. Naturally he'll have a vacancy now and then. This is how it always used to be and should be.

“Only the Shadow knows.”

My dad used that expression many times. It’s from a radio program that ended in the 50’s.

He can’t there is a law against nepotism. The law was enacted because JFK had RFK as his AG.

That would be illegal under 5 U.S. Code § 3110 which prevents the president from appointing of a relative to any government agency.

Not at all unexpected. Zinke has been carrying a lot of baggage. According to WaPo in this article posted 25 days ago, Zinke has been and continues to be under investigation for a number of alleged transgressions:

In particular the National Park Service falls under the DOI that would fit your description.

In the bygone era, the park ranger was a people friendly dude that rode a horse and was there to see that people enjoyed the park. Today a park is a haven to save animals with rangers converted to federal police and are more interested in saving the animals and harassing visitors.

And they are very politically active in the community. Case in point would be the park in ND where the superintendent personally attended community meetings to protest oil development in general and in particular oil wells within eyesight of the park.

This same park had an elk size that could not be supported by the park size and kept getting bigger and bigger. Culling the herd was unquestionable until ND Senator forced the issue by having legislation enacted to authorize the hunting of elk within that park.

And needless to say, oil development went on.

Normal people leave government appointments after a few years. Maybe go home (not Washington DC) and go back to normal. Our entire form of government was built with this in mind, whether or not it was expressly stated. Nobody in their right mind expects people to move to DC and stay there forever.

and rather than make another post, I think Sarah Palin would be a good choice for this role for the next few years.

I do believe I can figure out your age to within a couple of years.

Start with, 'older than dirt' add a couple of years, a little Kryptonite, and the fact that I was born before "a day that will live in infamy" and you will be there.

I'm amazed that I've survived for this long.

40 miles of bad road, with a lot of road side gin mills, wasn't all that bad:)
