New York police bill innocent man $4,600 for rectal probe

A US man wrongly suspected of hiding drugs in his colon was reportedly given a rectal probe - and billed for the unwanted examination.

Torrence Jackson said he refused consent for the invasive procedure, and suffered internal injuries as a result.

The hospital sent Mr Jackson, 42, a bill for $4,595.12 (£3,600).

He was stopped in his car by police after failing to signal, police say. Officers found a bag of marijuana and cocaine residue in Mr Jackson's vehicle.

Police officer Anthony Fiorini said Mr Jackson's posture in the car was consistent with someone hiding drugs in his rectum.

Police obtained a court warrant to perform a sigmoidoscopy, using a flexible 8in tube.

After the procedure found no drugs, Mr Jackson was released and said he only learned what doctors had done when he found blood in his underwear. "I felt tampered with," he told the newspaper.

Upon release, the hospital had a debt collectors' agency pursue Mr Jackson over the medical bill.

He refused to pay and the matter was ultimately dropped.

That's outrageous. I only pay $400 in Times Square.

His ‘posture was consistent with someone hiding items in his rectum’. I can only imagine what that posture looked like.
Now, he feels as though he’s being charged for his own
assault. There had to be ‘solid’ reasons before the police went that far.

Maybe all those stories of alien autopsies are really police looking for drugs.

Regardless I’m appalled that the police charged him for their investigation.

That’s inherently illegal - what next - if police investigate you for anything they can charge you for all aspects of that to?

Hell no.

"What's there?!"
"Nevermind. I thought I saw a monster or a bird or something. You're free to go."

"Police officer Anthony Fiorini said Mr Jackson's posture in the car was consistent with someone hiding drugs in his rectum."

I would question how Officer Fiorini would distinguish a, "posture consistent with drugs in his rectum," from a posture with say a banana, D-Cell battery or gerbil in his rectum.

"Police obtained a court warrant to perform a sigmoidoscopy...Mr Jackson...said he only learned what doctors had done when he found blood in his underwear."

How does one not notice that while it's going on?!?!

They typically will administer a Versed and/or Valium injection on an uncooperative subject. I wish I were an attorney. this is a slam-dunk $5+ million judgment.

You cram drugs up your ass if you're flying into Istanbul. Nobody drives around New York City with drugs shoved up their asses.
