An official from the nation’s largest sheriff’s department vowed this week to “physically remove” ICE agents from its county jails.

Speaking at a Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, Sheriff Alex Villanueva from the Los Angeles County sheriff’s office said he eliminate the presence of federal immigration agents from the city’s county jails.

“We are going to physically remove ICE from the county jails," Villanueva told the board, using the acronym for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

I am not sure if feds can override local authority...but this would be interesting...if federal authorities just overrode the procrime “sheriff”....cynical attempt by him to keep crime alive in his district so he can have a job...hope it backfires on him personally so he can understand the evil he is allowing to fester.

This could get interesting.......

I’m sure Trump will take kindly to this.

I think the federal government should cut all funding to CA.

If they hate this country so much, then they don’t have to take money from it.

Just draw a red circle around this county...remove all federal agents period, and let the public know that this Sheriff is totally alone and on his own. No federal support.

With an estimated population of 38.9 million in early 2015, this corresponds to federal payments of about $9,700 per person in the state of California.

No kidding.

Wonder where they are getting all that money.

The federals should send in troops like Kennedy did in Alabama- you know, to enforce the LAW Seems like something like this would have bipartisan support from all in congress and the executive (the Judicial is totally non partisan so that’s a no brainer) /s

Jails are normally county run. The Sheriff usually runs them. Historically in the old west, despite many hit movies, US Marshals were very careful to keep good relations with county sheriffs as they were typically the only ones that had a jail.

Feds do not have a right to have an office in a jail.

That said, I bet this idiot sheriff has many huge federal grants. Those should all be cut off immediately. I realize a court will immediately rule that illegal, but I watched Obama ignore Federal courts for 8 years.

Some court already ruled that we can’t do that when Sessions was making some noise about this about a year ago I think. Seems like the whole issue got tossed on the back burner since then.

Illegal immigrants generate a lot of federal government money flowing to California. A lot of illegal immigrants in California generates a lot of money flowing back to Mexico. Sheriff Villanueva is there to protect the flow.

I heard this leftist prick before. He might be out of a job soon and living in his own jail.

Wouldn’t that be a hoot. Charged with assault on a federal official doing his duty.

Hey, that would be a federal crime. Leavenworth for him, or GITMO (the future home of corrupt California political leftist lawmen).

The title sheriff is derived from the Old English shire rieve, the name for the highest law enforcement authority of the area. The role and authority is embedded in common law and courts have not gone contrary to that structure. However, funding is another matter so the federal funds that support LE operations could be at risk for use as leverage to get the LACSO to reconsider.

Actually the shire was the knights estate. When he was off fighting for the king he left his property in the hands of a rieve. Hence the the term shire rieve or sheriff.
