NEW YORK -- A confrontation between five homeless men and a police officer resulted in one of the men falling onto subway tracks.
Nobody was seriously hurt in the incident, but it could have easily gone a different way.
Cellphone video shows an NYPD officer being attacked by a group of men inside of a subway station in lower Manhattan.
The officer could be seen using his baton to defend himself.

Attacking a cop has joined fare beating and public urination on the list of subway misbehavior Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance won’t bother prosecuting.
Officer Syed Ali — an Army combat vet who served in Iraq and Afghanistan — had no trouble fending off five homeless vagrants with his baton and his feet as they came at him one by one on Sunday night. The attack, captured on video, was viewed 4 million times on Twitter.
As of Tuesday night, none of the men were to be prosecuted, said Danny Frost, a spokesman for Manhattan DA Cy Vance.

Was hoping to see the video. I’m guessing one reason why they weren’t charged is that the LEO kicked their arses so thoroughly that they’ve already received their punishment. A nightstick in the hands of a strong LEO would leave SERIOUS bruises.

He didn’t. He ended up running up the stairs. One of the bums fell on the tracks while chasing him, but unfortunately wasn’t injured.
This is all a result of de Blasio’s policy of removing criminal penalties for things like turnstile jumping, urinating in public, etc. Because he said there were too many “minorities” among the violators. Fare beating is now unpunished and so common that the MTA actually raised the fares on paying citizens this year to compensate for the huge losses due to non-paying ridership.
These bums, btw, had been harassing a woman waiting on the platform, and she went to the officer for protection. So it’s not like he sought them out just for fun. But I guess maybe harassment is okay now too, if you’re the right color or “deprived” group.
Assaulting a police officer and no prosecution?! Putting aside Christmas charity, WTF?
