It was a “small foreign faction”. And everyone knows that inside the house you kill the kid, on Christmas when everyone in the world is home. Then you hide the body in the basement. Then you sit down and write a long, detailed nutty note asking for ransom in the exact amount of the man’s recent bonus.
And when your young daughter is found murdered, you leave town as quickly as you can.
It’s pretty obvious to me that either the psycho mom did it on some accidental rage of some kind, OR the creeper brother did it and mom and dad decided they lost one kid, they were rich, and they would just cover it up so they didn’t lose both.
Had it happened anywhere but Boulder, their story would have been shredded.

I’m willing to suspend disbelieve on a lot of things, but this aspect of the case has always bothered me. They were well off - why not write a note asking for a million or some other round figure? Why ask for the exact amount of his bonus???
The Boulder police really messed this one up. Even a 5th grader would question the ransom note.
Definitely. That note was beyond the ability of any logic to suspend disbelief. The family did it, probably the mom.

Definitely bungled. But what they bungled was not getting the evidence that was certainly there that could have put away Patsy and the the brother.
Patsy wrote the note.
That cover story was a total fake that only a Boulder DA would take seriously.
Exactly. Either mom did it in some nutty rage moment, or the nutty brother who had already beaned her with a gold club a few years before finally accidentally hit her skull with something else. In that case mom was covering up so she wouldn’t lost both kids.
The Ramsey family scam could have only worked in a place as backwards mentally as Boulder.
I too could go with either scenario.
Remember when Jon Benet’s dad hooked up with Natalee Holloway’s mom? That was weird.
I originally thought it Patsy Ramsey but now I lean toward the brother with Patsy covering up for him.

Don’t think that’s a totally accurate statement. That was the ARGUMENT of some of the police but not necessarily the evidence.
At any rate, I don’t think the brother was ever seriously considered a suspect.
As a movie buff, it’s also funny that this note is full of movie lines from “Dirty Harry” and also from “Speed” that was released a year or two before.

Children’s beauty pageants should be outlawed. I don’t even want to look at past pictures of JonBenet. All in makeup and dresses and crap. What kind of parents would do that to a six year old?
