A growing number of Americans are OK with the facial recognition technology, especially if it increases public safety, according to a national survey released Monday.
Conducted on a national poll of 3,151 U.S. adults in December, the survey found only one in four Americans believe the federal government should strictly limit the use of facial biometrics technology.
The survey also indicates Americans are more likely to support any apparent tradeoff to their own privacy caused by facial recognition technology if it benefits law enforcement, reduces shoplifting or speeds up airport security lines.

Nobody asked me. I don’t support this.
Who did they poll? People at a DNC convention?
Whatever. When I worked in Funeral Service we buried people with their glasses on all the time, because in most cases, the friends and family couldn't recognize them without their glasses.
Ditto that, Buck.
So ... how about the police using facial recognition to identify those with outstanding warrants?
For example:
Police put a camera at a state park / bus station / sports arena. Camera feeds the computer system that matches names of outstanding warrants against the state drivers license database. If the police get a “hit”, the person is detained by the police to confirm identity and arrested if there is an outstanding warrant.
— Thoughts? —
Don’t see any difference than when you are stopped..no camera recognition..because you fit a certain profile.
I do not believe they can search you or any bags you maybe carrying..
Only check your I.D. and determine if you are the suspect or if you have any outstanding warrants.
I have been question multiple times by police..i travel a lot and i walk a lot.
I say upfront i have no problem showing you my I.D.
Once you see i have no outstanding warrants i will be on my way.
Thoughts?

Some guy wrote a book about that. I think it was called 1894 or something. All I know is it was not supposed to be an instruction manual.

Sounds like East Germany. You really cannot see a downside to the government watching and knowing everywhere you go? America wasn’t meant to be a place with a fascist leash shoved up our azz.
Up here in space
I’m looking down on you
My lasers trace
Everything you do
You think you’ve private lives
Think nothing of the kind
There is no true escape
I’m watching all the time
I’m made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean
I’m elected electric spy
I’m protected electric eye
Always in focus
You can’t feel my stare
I zoom into you
You don’t know I’m there
I take a pride in probing all your secret moves
My tearless retina takes pictures that can prove
I’m made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean
Electric eye, in the sky
Feel my stare, always there
There’s nothing you can do about it
Develop and expose
I feed upon your every thought
And so my power grows
I’m made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean
Protected. Detective. Electric eye

Sounds like your plan would be wonderful for the police and the government. For everyone else, that would be known as a “police state”.
Heard of a van that is loaded with weapons,
Packed up and ready to go
Heard of some grave sites, out by the highway,
A place where nobody knows
The sound of gunfire, off in the distance,
I’m getting used to it now
Lived in a brownstone, lived in a ghetto,
I’ve lived all over this town
This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco,
This ain’t no fooling around
No time for dancing, or lovey dovey,
I ain’t got time for that now
Transmit the message, to the receiver,
Hope for an answer some day
I got three passports, a couple of visas,
You don’t even know my real name
High on a hillside, the trucks are loading,
Everything’s ready to roll
I sleep in the daytime, I work in the nighttime,
I might not ever get home
This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco,
This ain’t no fooling around
This ain’t no Mudd Club, or C. B. G. B.,
I ain’t got time for that now
Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit?
Heard about Pittsburgh, P. A.?
You oughta know not to stand by the window
Somebody see you up there
I got some groceries, some peanut butter,
To last a couple of days
But I ain’t got no speakers, ain’t got no headphones,
Ain’t got no records to play
Why stay in college? Why go to night school?
Gonna be different this time
Can’t write a letter, can’t send no postcard,
I ain’t got time for that now
Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock,
We blended in with the crowd
We got computers, we’re tapping phone lines,
I know that that ain’t allowed
We dress like students, we dress like housewives,
Or in a suit and a tie
I changed my hairstyle, so many times now,
I don’t know what I look like!
You make me shiver, I feel so tender,
We make a pretty good team
Don’t get exhausted, I’ll do some driving,
You ought to get you some sleep
Burned all my notebooks, what good are notebooks?
They won’t help me survive
My chest is aching, burns like a furnace,
The burning keeps me alive

Emphasis on;
“Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock,
We blended in with the crowd
We got computers, were tapping phone lines,
I know that that aint allowed”.
It’s amazing how dead accurate some singers were a few decades ago. People thought they were just being dramatic. But they saw it early.
:>) Funny ain’t it. I also like the lyrics to Whip It by Devo.
I just hope the tech is distributed. If I get one of those ring.com doorbells, will I be able to use facial recognition to know exactly who it was that rang my doorbell or is it just for the cops and Mark Zuckerberg to use?
The counter argument is based on three points.
1) No one has an expectation of privacy while in public
2) Those with warrants have already been engaged by the legal system and have been required to appear in court or surrender for arrest. In other words, there is at least reasonable belief that the person has to answer for some crime.
3) A hit is not enough for arrest, only for reasonable suspicion to detain the individual and work to confirm their identity.
Consider that the state of Florida has almost 1,000 homicide warrants. Now add in kidnapping and sexual assault warrants. Thousands of very dangerous people walking the streets. Now multiply by 50 states.
It would not be reasonable to pursue an arrest in the case of all warrants. Bench warrants for failure to appear for a traffic violation should be treated only with a notification of the individual that there is an outstanding warrant that needs to be cleared up.
So we can all go to the local grocery store and cast our votes at the checkout line next election, right?
