Democrats shut down the Senate

Senate Democrats on Thursday began a “blockade” of all legislation after Senate Republicans refused to consider two House-passed bills that would fund partially shut down government agencies without money for a border wall.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., on Thursday morning blocked the two bills that were introduced by the two Democratic senators from Maryland, where thousands of federal government workers reside. Democrats made it clear afterward that they wouldn't agree to take up any bills other than those to reopen the government.

“It’s my commitment to my federal workers and our country that the first order of business here should be the reopening of government,” said Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md.

McConnell said there is no purpose to voting on the Senate-authored appropriations measures to reopen the government because President Trump will not sign them.

Cardin suggested there may be the votes to override a veto, which would require two-thirds majority support of both chambers. But Republicans have signaled so far they are standing behind Trump’s insistence on funding for a border wall.

Democrats believe Republicans will begin to abandon Trump beginning Friday, when paychecks lapse for 800,000 federal workers impacted by the partial shutdown.

“Your phones will all be ringing off the hook tomorrow when federal employees begin to miss that federal paycheck,” Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md. said.

That's Kate Steinle who was shot to death by that illegal POS.

Now Pelosi, Schumer and the Democrats say they don't give a sh*t if your wife, husband or kids are killed by an illegal alien, and that is certainly no reason to secure and protect our borders.

No joke.

Democrats shut down the Senate

Okey-doke. The only thing better would be a complete shutdown of the government, including the House. Maybe keep the DoD up and running, but defending the US only.

You may support Kate, but the California justice system supported the scumbag on the right. The Jury gave him a slap on the wrist, after IMHO the DA threw the case by overcharging. (The DA charged 1st degree murder, which was inappropriate; aggravated manslaughter was probably the right charge, along with throwing the book at him for illegal in possession of a firearm._

who gives a rats rear end if the Democrats agree to “take up a bill”. We have the majority. McConnell needs to continue with business as usual. Let the Dems look like the idiots that they are.

Hah, fat chance the SENATORS will miss any paychecks. There are a lot of exceptions made to accommodate the unique position that national legislators hold, and one of them is that they CANNOT be deprived of pay unless they are actually turned out of office for some offense so odious that they are also stripped of any pension rights as well.

Another is that any law they may write, they may also write in such a way it does not apply to THEMSELVES.

Well then the US Senate can start getting more judges and Trump nominees approved.

The HOR is voting on a gun bill will the U S Senate minority refuse to act on that as well?
