WASHINGTON — The House passed a bill that will ensure federal workers impacted by the partial government shutdown will receive back pay once federal offices reopen.

The bill passed unanimously in the Senate Thursday night and the White House has said President Trump will sign it.

The House also passed a bill to reopen the Interior Department, National Park Service and Smithsonian Museums.

I'm glad for the Coast Guard. They're not part of the DoD (which is unaffected by the shutdown).

If there's any group which deserves to get paid, it's them.

Hold on! This wasn’t what was in the email alert I received.

This is what the email said:

“The House passed a bill that will ensure furloughed federal workers get paid for the hours worked during the government shutdown. The bill passed unanimously in the Senate Thursday night and the White House has said President Trump will sign it.”

This should only apply to those actually working through this period. If they stayed at home then they shouldn’t get paid.

That's what was in my email alert.

Then, apparently, WTOP re-wrote the content of the news alert... >:-0

shouldn’t sign it. It can just as easily be passed when it’s over.

Ha! 7 Rs voted against it.
Good for them (though it was a ‘free’ vote).

We need the Coast Guard on the job too. They are border security.

When I was a contractor during a shutdown we didn’t get paid for missing work but the Damn fed unions did. Extra pay for not working. Slime balls!

WTF? They are going to carve out border security and fund everything else. Trump will not fall for that.

The devil's in the details. If it gets pay to groups like the Coast Guard and police who have to work, then OK. But if it's larded down with "let's pay the folks who are sitting at home," then forget it.

I agree. At first, when I got the email alert, I thought this was a good thing. But now I think this is just another piece of smelly Obama.

Is this the bill?

https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/24/text

If so, looks to me like it originated in the Senate, not the House. If so, ain’t that a wee prob when it comes to a spending bill?

Check out the last two paragraphs of this short bill. Something’s hinky.

It says furloughed workers get paid. Paid, for not working!

Except in the past, the bill was passed AFTER the government re-opened.

Mr. President, please don't sign this! It's a trap!

So it is a vacation. Hurt me like that.

IMO, those working should be paid. Those who are not should not.

Typical slimy UniParty tactic. Merge a good thing (paying people like the Coast Guard) to business-as-usual.

NON-ESSENTIAL “workers” should NOT get paid for not working. They should be laid off, for a savings of $80 billion/per year to us taxpayers!
