President Trump’s aides have started preparations for the State of the Union speech on Jan. 29, drafting some sections of the address with an understanding the partisan government shutdown could be continuing more than a month after it began, White House officials said.
Meanwhile, the White House Office of Management and Budget is preparing for the shutdown to continue through the end of February, according to White House officials who have been briefed on the plans. Mr. Trump on Thursday canceled his trip later this month to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, citing the border-security and shutdown negotiations.
“We are continuing to look at all options on the table,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said. “We would like to get the government open immediately.”
Inside the White House, some aides have discussed using their captive audience for the State of the Union to have the president admonish lawmakers for a shutdown that at that point would be on its 39th day, and to reprimand them by saying they haven’t given enough attention to what the administration views as an immigration crisis along the southern border. It was unclear whether Mr. Trump has been briefed on these discussions.

Trump knows the wall will never get built with the National Emergency. The 9th Circuit will stay the decision and the Supremes with Roberts as the swing vote could go either way.
Better option is to go big or go home. Keep the government shut down for months till Pelosi or Republicans in Congress override his veto. Then delcare the Emergency as a last possible option.

Pressure is going to mount on the RATs to do something ... I wonder if Trump waited to have this whole thing out with a RAT controlled congress in the first place. He sucking the air out of Nancy’s coronation. New congressional RATs can’t get laptops for their staffers - so their staffers can’t help constituents (they don’t know how to use a pencil). Trump has all the cards here - Best President Ever !!!

He should write next years speech now and discuss the shutdown.
After a few weeks of government shutdown I would like to see President Trump proposed cutting back some of the government employees. Then perhaps maybe that might get things moving. The bottom line is the wall represents a prevention of permanent Democrat and liberal Republican globalist rule. Without the wall that is possible with the wall that dream is not possible.
Hannity had parents of people killed by illegals on tonight. I was a very moving episode.

It would be funny if he nominated a supreme court justice while the government was shut down. I mean if RB Ginsburg steps down while the government is shut down.

Steve: When I was unemployed in 2011-12 (Thanks, Obama!), there were no Food Bank supplies or deferrement of my bills or my accounts. I went without vacations and many things. I even applied to be a substitute teacher in my school system and there was a hiring freeze back then. These days, I have a job I love (I have 2 jobs I love, actually) and my school system is desperately trying to find substitute teachers because the real teachers are leaving to get better jobs in this Trump Economy.
But what about the owl that needs care?
I think that is a great idea. It can work if things are shuffled around. and tons of money will be released, ultimately. For the vets, the wall, etc.

Maybe I’m clueless about the whole “National Emergency” process, but when did the judicial branch need to be checked with in order to declare a National Emergency?
The left-wing judiciary is like the bully in the lunch line—there are no rules—they just start punching and kicking you at will.
