For the 1975, USA and Canada car models had a seat belt interlock. The car could not be started unless the driver’s seat belt was done up.

I had a 1975 Oldsmobile Delta 88 which was originally delivered with this “feature”.

There was such a public outcry when the public found out that they couldn’t even start the car to, for example, back it out of the garage to wash it without buckling up, that the law was changed and dealers disabled the interlock.

That affected so many people that it went a long way toward validating the argument of liberal regulatory over-reach with stupid and un necessary regulations.

Helped Reagan a lot.

Remember the seat belt system that prevented you from starting the car if you weren’t buckled? Remember how that worked?

The people who voted for that should have been hung publicly. Same goes for those who propose this “breathalyzer.”

There’s a system that can work through skin contact via the steering wheel that’s effective and not intrusive.

That’s not the one they’d choose to make required. As such, this is stupid.

If it doesn’t test for everything that could impair, then why do it?

My nephew had one ordered by the court. His kids blew in for him to start it.

A co-worker's girlfriend had a breathalyzer on her car about two years ago. The things are now cellular-linked and have cameras built in, so each time the unit is activated it sends a report (with vehicle GPS location and operator photo) to the mothership. They monitor each unit and send the cops out if you violate the bail agreement.

The mosque was full and the messages were stark Monday night in Dearborn.

“If there’s anything we can take away from these five caskets, it’s that life is short — life is a privilege,” said a business partner of Issam Abbas

Creeping Sharia.

DeeBee DingBat is just pandering to her favorite constituents, the Dearborn Mooslims.

Stupid bill will go nowhere, but the Community will know DingBat has their back.

IF it had been a Dearborn Christian family kilt by a Kentucky drunk... Crickets.

I'm allergic to alcohol. Why should I have to 1) pay a little extra for some device on my car that I don't even need and 2) blow into a breathalyzer to start my car when I don't drink?

Along that "if it saves ONE LIFE argument", we should build the wall. That would save a lot more people, since drug overdoses have overtaken car accidents as leading cause of accidental death.

I would like to see Ms. Dingell blow into one of these every 30 minutes while she is driving! Oh, wait, she probably has a limo driver and driverless cars taking her everywhere.

“For the 99% that do not drink and drive, how is this even relevant?”
________________________________________________

This is very relevant. I’m guessing that almost 95% of people killed or maimed are NOT the drunk driver. There are most likely many, many, many families whose mothers/fathers/children/other relatives who would still be alive if a car was NOT started by the drunk driver.

Strange as it sounds, this is actually a good idea. It does alarm me that a Democrat suggested it. That, I will admit.

Every thing decent they will. But what do you expect from Democrats? Ban decency and encourage perversion. That is the motto of the Democrat Party. And their voters.
