If it weren’t for an American …… there would be no Car.

How do you figure? Many Europeans built cars dating back to the 1700’s. Karl Benz (Germany) built the first production car.

“So which is it?”

Good point...if the Camry is mostly American (but thankfully made without UAW thugs), then the car won’t be much affected by tariffs. So what’s the big deal?

No they won't that is the scared tactic used to get us to put the noose around our own necks. As for cars, there is not much labor in making cars and car parts. It's mostly automated and even for US union made cars the amount of labor per car is 7-8% of retail. So they can't skyrocket.

Well there are small companies that produce electronics for cars and doing it here makes those parts expensive.

“There’s no such thing as a 100% American-made car.”

It’s like the wall. It won’t keep all illegals out but it will reduce the inflow.

A 100% American-made car won’t happen but we need a healthy manufacturing segment.

why do you insist they are globalist sell outs?

The manufacture of automobiles relies on supply chains that are not based soley in the USA. Is that a globalist sellout? Would you want us to be like russia where their manufacturinf is piticul and home made cars are bad?

I would say overall the price may go up 1-2% at first. Then back down to way they were before.

“How do you figure? Many Europeans built cars dating back to the 1700’s. Karl Benz (Germany) built the first production car.”

Henry Ford put the world on wheels, - his dream was to enable affordable transportation to all who wanted it. He was extremely successful in fulfilling his dream: “ He is credited with “Fordism”, that is, the mass production of large numbers of inexpensive automobiles using the assembly line which could finish a car in 98 minutes,”

For a while i drove a semi.. parts from all kinds of American assembly workers unions were picked up from mexico and Canada. Some small parts are made here, but that was ten years ago.
I never dealt with any of the new plants in South Carolina, so let’s hope he is wrong.

By that token, when a Ford is made in its big factories in Spain or India, are those American cars because money goes to the US on every unit sold?

It seems to me Fiat is creating American jobs and investing in American manufacturing. Don’t we want that?

Also, many of FCA’s largest shareholders are American hedge funds, mutual funds, and institutional investors. Just as Ford and GM have a lot of foreign shareholders.

No - but having the factories/supply chains based on American soil is an advantage for us versus a deficit.

I actually don’t care who makes my cars, or what country they are made in. My German car was made in Mexico. My Japanese cars were made in the USA.

In fact, I usually go out of my way NOT to buy a Ford or GM product. Certainly no FCA (Dodge or Jeep) vehicles.
