Dr. John R. Lott, Jr. spoke with the Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur about how universal background checks disarm poor minorities. The also debated whether more guns mean less crime.
Regarding claims about how crime rates vary across nations see here and how crime rates change after guns are banned see here. In reference to the graph on mass public shootings that Cenk shows see the paper discussed here. Lott wasn’t able to see the graph when he was talking to Cenk Uygur, but he was correct guessing that they were relying on numbers from Adam Lankford at the University of Alabama.

Background checks....so far....haven’t proved much of anything. There are individuals denied weapon purchases, but it’s like a 1.5-percent denial rate, and shootings still continue.
I noted that if you use data from 1994 to 2015 (roughly 20 years), there were 3 million out of 197 million request to purchase denied (Justice Dept numbers). It’d be curious if they broke these out into the male-female category. I doubt if you could find one single female out of a thousand who failed on background check.

Like body cameras on cops - they don’t want ANY expectations of “preferred minorities” (those they obviously view as less-evolved), and certainly don’t want them held to ANY standards...
They might work, if juvies’ crimes get reported. Can’t have that now. Might decrease the school shooting incidents, once they fire a few sheriffs.
