So glad to have escaped Silicon Valley in early fall 2018 with the sale of our house. Realtors in the area were starting to worry about the upcoming market. Could be several factors, at least where we lived. Higher interest rates. Loss of some of the deductions for high property and state income taxes. High-tech companies relocating part or all of their California-based businesses out of state to avoid California’s business hostile environment.
Congrats. Bet you cashed out with a pretty penny.
For personal reasons, I can’t leave the Bay Area, but, man, it’s tempting.
i’m thinking you had great timing
We left SoCal in 2010 — a 2500 sq. ft. house on a tiny lot in a subdivision of “little houses made of ticky-tacky, and they all look just the same”. Came to TN and paid cash for a 4700 sq. ft. house, on 2.5 acres, on a gorgeous river, with money left over.
California was impossible and we hated it so much!
My son and wife own a business in Mountain View and were renting a house in Redwood City. The home owner decided to sell, so they moved out before Christmas. They are probably going to relocate to Reno. Market is insane and the business climate is actively hostile.
