Republicans were ‘do nothing’ even back then (1948)?

Not sure how the Equal branches work in the case of physical entry.

I mean, can one Branch physically enter the domain of another, when bypassing the historical protocols in place between all the branches?

I’m all for Trump stuffing this game down her throat, but do wonder about the avenues to enter when there is vociferous rejection and a great desire for ejection.

If he calls a joint session it's held in the House with Botox in charge of who speaks. Trump can Adjourn Congress easier. Article 2 sec 3 governs this. Nor does it state WHERE the SOTU is held.

I don't see where it state in the Constitution there is a specific place the SOTU is held. It wasn't till modern times and TV that it was held in the House because it is the larger of the 2 chambers.

He could hold it in a huge Aircraft hanger at Camp David for all that it matters, and seat them on folding chairs. With the Vindictive Botox at the back the furthermost from the bathroom with a camera in her face so we can see all the faces she makes as she has to face all those Angel Moms/Dads and relatives. This President has a Spine and fights dirty when he needs to, that is why we chose him.

Article II Section 3

He shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in case of disagreement between them, with respect to the time of adjournment, he may adjourn them to such time as he shall think proper; he shall receive ambassadors and other public ministers; he shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed, and shall commission all the officers of the United States.

From that 1 statement "he may adjourn them to such time as he shall think proper" he can choose the spot and adjourn congress if I read it right.

Aren't there huge banquet rooms in the WH? Rose Garden, or Trump Tower?

Personally I hope he doesn’t do the State of the Union speech in front of congress. It is so boring and ridiculous every year watching the opposite party sit during parts of the speech, frown, do political theater like wearing the same color to symbolize things, etc. - it’s just a political show for members of congress. If he were to eliminate congress’s participation altogether, it would be a better speech and not allow them to showboat during it.

I think he should give the speech from the oval office and not allow any of the nuts from the other side anywhere near him. That would really upset them - not allowing them this opportunity to make public asses out of themselves.

Why did you post your vanity in the News Forum?

You’ve posted stuff we’ve all seen numerous times here on FR in the last several days.

A political body convenes a session, and then adjourns a session.

You don’t “session” a congress.

But this thread has been hilarious.

Non-responsive. TRUMP can convene at any time. Nothing mentioned about session.

Your opinion is irrelevant. Provide support for your position. Otherwise, the wording appears to be very clear as to his powers.

Well, we are told that 25% if the government is shut down for want of funds. What could be more extraordinary?

Which has what to do with the State of the Union address?

An alliance to depose Maduro and Free Venezuela? Would the call for allied troops to invade be extraordinary?

A declaration of war would no doubt qualify as an extraordinary circumstance. Are we going to war with Venezuela?

Dawg, you are blindly ignorant on this one.

“...and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient...”

He can summon them to any appropriate location.

Does it have to be an "appropriate" location?

He could drive them all crazy by summoning them all to Moscow.

Well, he could speak to the Senate, and have a copy sent to the House.

This doesn’t give the President the right to speak to the Congress, just convene or adjourn.

in Case of Disagreement between [House and Senate], with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper
Hmmmm! There have been times in the past when GWB was POTUS that the Senate refused to adjourn in order to prevent the president from making any recess appointments. They did it by continually running pro forma sessions every day during the de facto adjournment.

According to the quote above, the House would have had to also avoid officially adjourning, or the president would have been able to force the Senate to adjourn as well. I don’t remember any discussion of that.

***make Nancy sit with the rest of the rabble, not on the dias behind him.***

It will be good NOT to see Nancy make like a clapping Jack-in-the-box every time TRUMP pauses, and she did with Obama.

“Boink! Clap clap clap!”

“Boink! Clap clap clap!”

“Boink! Clap clap clap!”

"... either of them, and in case of disagreement between them, with respect to the time of adjournment, he may adjourn them to such time as he shall think proper;"

I think it would be hilarious if Trump adjourned both houses of Congress indefinitely. If McConnell decided to go along with Trump, then it would appear that the Senate could adjourn and then the House would have to adjourn or Trump could force it to adjourn.

The fly in the ointment might be whether or not McConnell has the power to adjourn the Senate or is it subject to filibuster. Even if subject to filibuster, McConnell could perhaps use a "nuclear option" to eliminate the 60 vote requirement.
