Why The Democrats Cheered Trump’s Defeat, But Should Be More Panicked Than Ever
Townhall.com ^ | January 27, 2018 | Kevin McCullough

On Friday afternoon, within minutes of President Trump ending the shutdown, the left declared victory.

Dancing up and down on his perceived “grave” the fund raising requests were e-blasted to supporters promising that the day’s events insured already assumed doom for a President they hate.

Don’t tell them... but the opposite is now on its way.

To see leftwing activists so eagerly cheer the defeat (even temporarily) of some of the most broad-based (and in many instances—Democrat initiated) objectives as it pertains to common sense border security was disheartening.

Why Congressional and Senate Democrats would refuse the opportunity to take partial credit of creating an orderly border process is mystifying. Especially so when 78%-90% of Americans seek tougher border measures. Most of whom also believe that a border barrier is a key component to the multi-lateral security strategy.

Directing people to the end of the fence, to the “point of entry” is rational—not immoral—as Speaker Pelosi asserts.

She asserts as much because of the sinister forces stirring the Democrat base at present.

The hard left has such hooks into the party’s base that they have literally forced leadership to completely abandon policy that they supported under President Obama.

Remember in 2013 Senator Schumer got the entire Democrat caucus to vote in lock step approval for a $40 billion border security package that included upwards of $8 billion in building additional miles of barriers.

So what’s changed?

Donald Trump became President.

I don’t say that in some sort of predictable defense-of-partisan-position reaction.

In fact it has very little to do with Donald Trump being a Republican.

It’s about something much more specific — Donald J. Trump — to be hyper specific.

The progressive wing of the Democrat party believed Barack Obama would remake the landscape of American politics. Though he tried, she remains a center-right nation.

Obama tried to do his part. As Charlie Kirk pointed out this weekend: “He picked his successor, weaponized the FBI, DOJ, & IRS against his opponents. Controlled 90% of the media. Had double the ad budget. Colluded with foreign powers against the challenger. Yet they lost to a billionaire they claimed was beneath them.”

But that was only the beginning.

Once he was sworn in he deregulated largely progressive and politically motivated regulations on small businesses. He rewrote the tax code. We saw manufacturing and production come pouring back into the country. Lowest unemployment and highest labor participation in history.

These reforms armed and continue to empower more individuals to have more personal economic options than they had known in the stagnant “recovery” the previous administration oversaw.

When a party has a tight leash on the purse strings they are able to bully the masses into subjection on issues of conscience. Trump not only broke that chokehold he also simultaneously completely shifted the direction of the federal judiciary for a generation or more. Working quite closely with Majority Leader McConnell, Trump has nominated and has seen confirmed nearly as many judges in federal, appellate, and Supreme Court(s) in two years as the previous administration did in eight.

The left understands this, they were unprepared and are now fighting hard and dirty. Their precious vision of peacenik socialism, coupled with an ample servings of sexual anarchy, religious bigotry, and self superiority is once again slipping through their fingers.

Good read.

Too bad it duplicates itself in the same post.

I wonder if there is any room for all the so-called conservatives whining that Trump has caved on the wall?

So what is different? In 2013, the Democrats voted to spend money and not change anything. Illegals would still spill across the border with no effective measure to stop the flood. Today, a wall would work, and end the controversy.

Democrats don't want solutions, they want continuing controversies.

The Enemy Media can try to ‘sell/tell’ me the exact opposite. I ain’t buying it.

President Trump hasn’t let me down, yet. I’m looking forward to the completion of this term and all it entails and then on to his next.

MAGA! :)

Of course the Dems realize that if he has to go the way of declaring a National Emergency, DACA etc is off the table.

They are in a worse situation now. I hope they refuse to negotiate.

Many of the democrats are deviant power mongers and can’t help themselves. Hope they burn in hell for hurting America.

When you look at the recent shutdown in the context of Trump's entire first two years in office, this whole charade is really a colossal blunder on the part of Pelosi and Schumer.

They sat there and made this highly public stand on an issue where Trump had no success even when the REPUBLICANS controlled both houses of Congress.

In other words, Pelosi and Schumer have allowed themselves to replace the GOP as the "bad guys" on border security in the eyes of Americans who have been clamoring about illegal immigration for years.

I see it all as a big Win. But we need to seal the deal in 3 weeks, and I think we will.

They don’t care about DACA. The Dems don’t care about anything except getting the power to overthrow Trump. I hope people who could have benefited from DACA realize this.

If there are specific reasons (I would love to read something that reverses my pessimism right now) the left to be panicked in that article, I missed them.

Why would the Democrats panic? Trump was outfoxed by a demented old lady and a slimy worm. He’s yapping a lot about Feb 15 but so far its been all speculation but no action. He is Commander in Chief. He can constitutionally order the Army Corp of Engineers to start building that wall tomorrow without declaring an emergency. Yet he talks but does not act.

I agree, but the same could be said about the GOP. Look at the last two years regarding the wall and 0-care.
