The Trump administration will sanction Venezuela's state-owned oil firm, Petroleos de Venezuela, a move the White House has long put off for fear that it would raise oil prices and hurt American refiners.

The move comes after a turbulent week for Venezuela that has created a standoff over the country's leadership.

Last week, the opposition leader of Venezuela's National Assembly, Juan Guaido, named himself interim president amid street protests. President Donald Trump soon recognized Guaido as the nation's leader and his administration has been marshaling international support for the opposition figure since then.

However, socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro, having recently started another term following disputed elections, is refusing to back down. He is backed by the country's minister of defense and Russia.

“I wonder if the aoc people even know what a dictator is. I kind of double doubt it.”

You know, it’s sad, but throughout my lifetime ( of now 78 years) I have watched as Socialism/Marxism has “made the rounds” in the countries comprising Central and South America. Each one, it seems, has “dabbled in Socialism” only to find itself saddled with a tinpot dictator, or a series of them. From my perspective, only America has managed to keep from going “all Venezuela.” Even Canada can’t seem to stay on the Capitalist bandwagon for very long. So, unless we secure our borders (all of them) the future does not portend our remaining a free, capitalist, republican country for very much longer because it would seem that the rest of the hemisphere is bent on somehow perfecting the “free lunch” through the use of “other people’s money!”

“Each one, it seems, had “dabbled in Socialism”

“DOUBLED-DABBED”, I would say.

I remember years ago the irony of standing in front of my university library (a building full of learning) but that’s besides the point, while a bunch of stinky tree huggers went on about the merits of socialism and reading above their heads on the stone facade George Santayana’s phrase.
It’s true what you say. Every generation is just as susceptible as the last to the disease of socialism.

This is the way to do it. Sanctions never work. Attacks and invasions haven’t worked in decades. But Trump just created a giant financial incentive for the right people in Venezuela to make a bold move.

And he didn’t have to spend a dime, or fire a shot.

The Dems love socialism and they love Russia too. Any discussion of VZ must hammer home these points. I would push resolutions condemning VZ socialism and Russian interference in political system.

Well, let’s educate them. Both houses could pass resolutions specifically condemning socialist VZ.

Whereas
Redistribution of wealth and high taxes have created disincentives to work
Which has lead to scarcity of products and services
Which has lead to black markets and crime,
And capital flight, and emigration of skilled professionals and workers
Which has resulted in a flight from the Bolivar into precious metals, dollars, euros.
Which has lead to 80,000% inflation.

Let’s see if they condemn that.

Just imagine the frustration a person would experience trying to get just those basic facts into aoc’s thick head. All you’d see is bug eyes and flashing teeth while she waved her skinny little arms around. Totally futile endeavor.

If Dems love Russia and President Trump loves Putin, then I am having trouble understanding what all the fuss is about.

Exactly. I was at the Trump rally in Tampa last August. A bunch of anti Trumpers thought they were slick by blasting Back in the USSR over an old ghetto blaster. I asked one of them whom I thought seemed somewhat intelligent (I know, dumb ASSumption on my part) if he was aware that at the time the Beatles wrote that song, whoever put them up to that foolishness had no problem with the Russians meddling in our affairs. No response, just a blank stare. ORANGE...MAN...BAD

A rather important distinction. Figures MSM would spin it the other way. No doubt and no surprise they support Maduro.
