HOW THE GREEN NEW DEAL BECAME THE GREEN NEW DEAL

**SNIP**

The concept didn’t fully take off until a new wave of progressive candidates campaigned on a more aggressive version of it - but its sudden surge into the mainstream happened after Sunrise, a youth-led environmental organization, held a sit-in in Nancy Pelosi’s office.

Ocasio-Cortez dropped by to cheer on the young activists, and in the ensuing weeks Sunrise pushed dozens of members of Congress to adopt a resolution calling for a new select House committee on climate change. Ultimately, Democratic leadership didn’t completely give in to the demand, as the panel will not have any of the major features progressives were asking for. The committee won’t have the authority to approve legislation or any subpoena power to compel testimony from oil industry executives or obtain documents.

“Green New Deal was a working title, and we almost had the understanding that was going to be called something else,” she said. “But it kept leaking, and catching, and people just started writing articles calling it a Green New Deal before we even said anything or called it that ourselves. And so because of that, that was in a moment where it was listening, and I was like OK let’s not try to force our own thing on this, if this is building traction, if it’s easily being communicated, then let’s just run with it.”

The original “New Deal” kept our country in the Great Depression, was Marxist nonsense and was unconstitutional. So I guess the name fits, at least.

Wacko environmentalism and socialism share this trait: people vote their way into them but may have to shoot their way out of them.

They can shove their “green new deal”. I will not comply with an unjust law.

Am I the only one who thinks the term “New Green Deal” is a bad title?

Derivative, okay. But clumsy. Awkward. And there wasn’t an old original green deal.

The FDR New Deal meant dealing cards another time and hoping the new hand was better for the losers if they tried again. Started welfare, Social Security and the belief that Big Government will take care of everything if taxes are high enough.

Truman had the Fair Deal, JFK the New Frontier (after the American West, then new horizon was the Moon and beyond, symbolizing creativity, achievement and being goal oriented). As Robert Ringer said, it was bad to say “what you can do for your country” as this means we owe the State all our labor and wealth.

“Green” is always a drag downward and putting the economy in leg irons and handcuffs as: “The auto industry is ready except for the cars to be sold in California which do not meet stringent CA only regulations” and “tenants and home residents whose trash is found upon inspection to have biodegradables, paper, cardboard, metal cans and plastics not in proper recycling containers will be fined $200 per offense.”
And “man demanded a plastic straw and two nearby diners pushed him down and beat him on the floor”.

Take the verbal high ground. Call it for what it is, the Green New Raw Deal.

imho the republican should compromise on this one.

First they strip out all the mandates and carbon taxes.

But leave in all the new R&D funding for renewable energies because the President wants the US to be energy dominant. that means being dominant in all energy sources including solar wind nuclear geothermal, compressed air. The way to be dominant is to be the lowest cost producer of the energy. That requires R&D which is America’s bread and butter.

Then the republicans should start adding in provisions. From this they should take a cue from arguably our greatest ally and ague-ably our greatest enemy. Israel and China.

Both countries are investing a lot of money in desalination R&D, water infrastructure and reforestation.

Add in R&D for water desalination research. Its important here to understand that Israel has become water independent because of water desalination. They have collapsed the cost of desalinated water to the point where they can use it for agriculture. (the water is first sent to their cities and then is cleaned up to brown water standards and sent to their farms.) The USA needs to do the research to bring do water desalination to cost cheap enough for agriculture. That would make much of the southwest suitable for agriculture because brackish water underlies much of that area.

The second part is water infrastructure. Both Israel and China have built and are building pretty massive water infrastructure projects to move water around their countries. The US has not had any major water infrastructure projects for over half a century. One such project might east texas storm water to east texas. Another might move Mississippi flood water to the colorado basin.

The third part is trees. Both Israel and China are planting millions of trees to reclaim their deserts. The reason they do this is because trees reclaim the soil and eventually make land suitable for living and agriculture. The Israelis have small projects going all over Israel. The chinese are doing this at scale. They are reclaiming about 800 square miles a year from the deserts—which make up about half of china.

The UN blesses the the Israeli and Chinese tree planting programs because trees reduce CO2. But China and Israel have their own reasons for planting trees.

Similarly the USA would have its own reason for planting trees. Planting trees for example throughout the southwest would go a long way toward reclaiming those areas from the desert,
