A remarkable poll taken by Gallup shows just how seriously our borders are under threat of being overwhelmed.
Gallup asked the whole population of Latin America. There are 33 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Roughly 450 million adults live in the region. Gallup asked them, "Would you like to move to another country permanently if you could?" A whopping 27% said "yes."
So this means roughly 120 million would like to migrate somewhere.
The next question Gallup asked was, "Where would you like to move?"
Of those who want to leave their Latin American country permanently, 35% said they want to go to the United States.
The Gallup analytics estimate is that 42 million want to come to the U.S.
Democrats Push to Reduce Bed Space for Violent Offenders at the Border It gets worse.
Forty-two million seekers of citizenship or asylum are watching to determine exactly when and how is the best time to make the move. This suggests that open borders could potentially attract 42 million Latin Americans. A full 5 million who are planning to move in the next 12 months say they are moving to the U.S. We all know why 42 million Latin Americans want to move to the U.S. Most of them live in oppressive left- or right-wing dictatorships with few economic opportunities. The region is ravaged by murderous drug cartels. If you want a rigged system, you should look no further than the third-world hellholes to our south (sorry, but "hellholes" is about as kind as I can be).
So the questions asked by Gallup CEO Jim Clifton are wholly relevant to both opponents of legal immigration and proponents of open borders.
Rather than find a solution for the several thousand potential migrants currently at the border, let's start by answering the bigger, harder question -- what about the 42 million who would like to come? What is the message to those millions who will seek entrance either legally or illegally? What should we tell them? Most U.S. citizens like me just want to know the plan. What is the 10-year plan? How many, exactly whom and what skills will they bring? What do we want? Answer these questions, and the current discussion can be resolved.
The system is broken. We can't protect our borders. We can't figure out how to determine who should be allowed in, under what circumstances, and what criteria we should use to make our country a stronger, better place?
Even those who advocate for increasing legal immigration need to think about these questions. How many new immigrants can we absorb? How fast? Most open borders advocates refuse to consider such questions and many border security hawks won't even discuss them.
It's a helluva way to make public policy.
While that 42 million number sounds huge, people can say all kinds of crap until reality strikes them.

Like telling them to try to make changes in their own 3rd world nations.
“Most of them live in oppressive left- or right-wing dictatorships with few economic opportunities.”
Which countries in Latin America today are “right-wing dictatorships”? Was this written in 1970?
Lets move America to their countries.
Well, how many Americans say they want to move to a low-cost tropical paradise with old-fashioned women? Maybe a straight-up exchange could be worked out.
Exactly. When was the last time you were polled and I mean when you were asked. Not like those instapolls on tv. Especially a dumb question like where do you want to migrate to. Boy do I have a lot to say if I ever get polled.
I don’t answer the phone for polls. However, it wouldn’t surprise me if some of my teenagers respond with all sorts of nonsense!
“Lets move America to their countries.”
That’s what we did during the Cold War, and the American left fought it tooth and nail. While it wasn’t a perfect arrangement, there certainly weren’t millions pourting into our country to escape sh!tholes. In an economic sense, it was the heyday of Latin America (though not for the lower classes); if nothing more, it was stability.
The immigrant crises in the US and Europe are a glaring demonstration of the failure of self-determination in Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.
This flood of people would simply make the United States into the same type of third world country that all these people came from.
JoMa
From what I’ve read, 42mm is only a fraction of those who want to come here. Worldwide, over 750mm people want to move, most of them to Europe, but more than 10$ to the US.
Maybe the 42mm is just the Central Americans or those from Venezuela.
From what I’ve read, there is at least one Mexican city with restaurants for Afghans, Congolese, Somalis, Chinese, etc. The people coming aren’t just speaking Spanish.
It is my understanding that the ChiComs and Russia are at least partially involved in the present invasion.
If they’re too lazy and indifferent to do that there what do you think they’re going to do if they get here?
SB 10%
Sorry, we’re closed...we’ve taken too many of the world’s losers as it is.
As long as they come here legally, it doesn’t matter if it’s 42 billion, or something.
Easiest (and legal\Constitutional) ‘solution’ there is:
- Terminate the Welfare State in all its shapes/forms+ (restores [property] Rights+)....those that utilize services will PAY for the services provided (education, h’care, etc.
- Enforce, in full, the EXISTING laws on the books. Begin @ Fed. level employees, then State, then...
Once the ‘carrot’ is gone & pipeline has dried up, the U.S. will be glad to take those willing to make her better.
I’m all for 2x-down as well: Pass a reciprocity act. Same laws of the home country apply to the law-breakers here
You think the U.S. is crowded now, wait until these freeloading pixies show up. We need these idiots like we need a hole in the head.
If people in the world’s hellholes could afford plane tickets we’d have a hundred of millions of people here...
