Newly released internal FBI emails showed the agency's highest-ranking officials scrambling to answer to Hillary Clinton's lawyer in the days prior to the 2016 presidential election, on the same day then-FBI Director James Comey sent a bombshell letter to Congress announcing a new review of hundreds of thousands of potentially classified emails found on former Rep. Anthony Weiner's laptop.
The trove of documents turned over by the FBI, in response to a lawsuit by the transparency group Judicial Watch, also included discussions by former FBI lawyer Lisa Page concerning a potential quid pro quo between the State Department and the FBI -- in which the FBI would agree to downgrade the classification level of a Clinton email in exchange for more legal attache positions that would benefit the agency abroad. There was no indication such a quid pro quo ever took place.
And, in the face of mounting criticism aimed at the FBI, the documents revealed that Comey quoted the 19th century poet Ralph Waldo Emerson by assuring his subordinates, "To be great is to be misunderstood."
The FBI did not respond to Fox News' request for comment on the released emails.
On Oct. 28, 2016, Comey upended the presidential campaign by informing Congress that the FBI would quickly review the Weiner laptop. The Justice Department's internal watchdog later faulted the FBI for failing to review the Weiner laptop through much of the fall of 2016, and suggested it was possible that now-fired FBI Agent Peter Strzok may have slow-walked the laptop analysis until other federal prosecutors pressured the FBI to review its contents.
On the afternoon of Oct. 28, Clinton lawyer David Kendall demanded answers from the FBI -- and the agency jumped into action, the emails showed.

Also, I’ve heard lots of justifications for being in the wrong, and criminals/sociopaths are the usual suspects for self justification, but saying that it’s great to be misunderstood in a wrong-doing context is probably not what Emerson had in mind. Quoting transcendentalist philosophers doesn’t make you less crooked.

I lurked at FR since 1998 but was reluctant to get involved in attacks against me so I didn’t sign up until last year.
Since the 1990s I have always been obsessed with seeing Bill & Hillary Clinton brought to justice legally.
STILL WAITING.
I saw decades of FR posts “the Clintons are going to be indicted when this new evidence is brought in” and “This testimony means the Clintons’ days are numbered.”
I hope once again they will be brought to justice. I am not highly optimistic, however. Satan takes good care of his own.

The Clinton’s used their time in the WH to infiltrate and plant their friends in all the right places, as did Obama.
Their graft and corruption goes very deep.
It will take a whole generation or two to erase their influence and it won’t be easy........................
The FBI was really worried because Comey’s code name was “Big Weasel Weiner”.

I have read and admired your posts all these years. You add a lot to FR and are actually one of its pillars.
Grimly funny: I was immediately accused by about 4 or 5 of being a newbie troll (one privately said my strongly pro-Trump type statements are the type that goad posters into saying rough things to get in trouble!). I am innocent, not a troll, and deeply resented that. I was bullied in junior high and never got over the resentment of those who stood and watched. Also, my narcissist,alcoholic bullying mother broke my self esteem and self confidence. Manning up is always difficult for me.
