WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. employers posted the most open jobs in December in the nearly two decades that records have been kept, evidence that the job market is strong despite several challenges facing the economy.

The Labor Department said Tuesday that job openings jumped 2.4 percent in December to 7.3 million. That is the most since records began in December 2000. It is also far greater than the number of unemployed, which stood at 6.3 million that month.

Does this make sense?

What kind of jobs?

Unemployed sign ups are not the same as "not working" persons.

Y’know its funny, I keep hearing Trump’s plan to cut taxes and regulations will never work.

Meanwhile as a contractor in the financial services field, I’ve not only seen steadily higher interest from employers but my income has been rising steadily for 2 years now. I just agreed to another project yesterday that is a 9% pay increase over my last one. My income is up a staggering 1/3rd in the last two years.

The MSM and Democrats keep promising we’re staring at a recession and yet I keep seeing exactly the opposite. Its kind of like when they told me for years and years after 2008 that we were in a recovery and I saw absolutely no sign of that recovery.

There are a number of reasons for a company to post jobs... hiring may not be one of them.

The guy who has a Help Wanted sign on the door is one thing. He has a legitimate need.

In the booming Tech field, I’ve seen jobs posted for 5 continuous years. Any job posted for more than a year is a non-job.

The “staffing firms” are many times posting the same job. I’ve seen an 11 to 1 posting ratio on the job boards where multiple firms are chasing the same opening. How is Fedzilla counting this type of opening. One job or eleven?

In many cases, there is so much inflexibility in what candidates will put up with & employers demand, I’m amazed anyone gets hired.

I’d bet the real number of job openings is 10 percent of what is actually posted.

I’m happy for you. Really. Good for you!

I hope what has happened for you extends to others I know, who have given up finding work in their field.

Many companies are only collecting resumes for later use.

“despite several challenges facing the economy”

yeah, like what, AP? you throw that in the article and never once reference any “challenges”? Apparently, the dying lying leftist fake stream enemedia rule book requires some reference to negativity about the Trump economy, no matter how glowingly good the actual news is ...
