A Massachusetts judge on Monday ordered Michelle Carter to start serving her sentence for persuading her boyfriend to kill himself in 2014.
Carter was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in June 2017 after a judge determined that her texts to Conrad Roy III persuaded him to kill himself.
Bristol County Juvenile Court Judge Lawrence Moniz sentenced Carter to 15 months in jail in August 2017, but he allowed her to remain free while she appealed her conviction. In a ruling this month, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court upheld Carter's conviction, saying the evidence showed that her conduct caused Roy's death by suicide. On Monday, deputies led Carter out of the Taunton, Massachusetts, courtroom after Moniz granted the Commonwealth's request to revoke the stay of her sentence. The case raised free speech questions about whether a person should be held responsible through their words for someone else's actions.

Damn. Now I have to read up on what she actually said/did.
I had an ex that explicitly told me i should kill myself.
No, maybe 3 exes :)
But I have to read now what the situation actually was like.
Sad story all around.
Two messed up people found each other. Didn’t turn out well.
“Damn. Now I have to read up on what she actually said/did.”
It was awful-—she’s nuts IMHO.
.
We could use her as a negotiator!
Especially how many times have we said go kill yourself to someone in time of anger or jokingly. So how do we not know that she said the same thing without realizing he was going to follow through.
Why uncomfortable?
If i read this correctly, she took a depressed and moderately unstable person and instead of encouraging help and counseling, she encouraged suicide and berated him for not doing it sooner.
I could be wrong but it seems to me like she deliberately caused his death instead of trying to prevent it.
Do you do that repeatedly? This was a case that covered a longer term berating. She was a jerk. (Obviously!)
Agreed. Also, if you’re going to talk someone into suicide, do so in a voice call, not a text.
Its a new (not necessarily better) day. Once upon a time you could just tell someone to kill himself out of the heat of an argument. Then part ways and cool off. Now with texting and 24 hr contact, the anger can stay alive and fuel itself.
Really over the top and completely disgusting behavior.
15 months in jail. She's getting off pretty easy. If the genders were reversed, not only would the sentence be much longer but you'd have the "me too" crowd howling in the streets and looking for an angle to pin it on Trump somehow.
The exchange is one of the most horrific things i’ve ever read.
She practically begged him to do it until about 6pm.
Then when she didn’t hear from him for 3 hours, she seemed worried that he wasn’t responding.
Doctors said antidepressants may have caused her to act like this.
I’ve NEVER heard “side effects may include pushing someone as hard as you can to kill themselves”.
She wanted to be Romeo and Juliette.
I guess she changed her mind about the Juliette part.
She sounds INSANE!!!
Agreed.
A BRUTAL transcript to read of that day’s text exchanges.
Saying “why don’t you kill yourself!” in a fit of relationship rage is a LOT different than what happened here.
You used to be able to put the phone off the hook.
Not so anymore. You are right.
Visited your home page.
Are you and your siblings planning on taking over a country? :)
That’s a lot of kids :)
Reminds me of the good old days.
My grandmothers had 8 to 10 kids each.
My mother have five of us.
My sisters had one or two each.
And all that I see happening is one or two children getting WAY too much.
We had less as five but had SO MUCH fun!
Good for you guys.
Should claim she is an illegal.
I’m good with it. She knew he was depressed, and what did Cujo do? She encourages him to kill himself. At one point he gets outta the car, and she criticizes him and demands he get back in and finish the job.
Screw her, lock her azz up.
No different than someone who preys on old people with scams.
Well I’m glad you didn’t. You make sense and I like your views. Whadda those women even know anyway?
Anytime you get in a suicide pact, make sure they pop smoke first...
I couldn’t agree more...
Never seen one like this on a bottle of medicine. “Side effects include sleepless, loss of appetite, thoughts of suicide or desire to make someone else commit suicide”.
