Shooter in Aurora, Illinois, manufacturing plant wasn't legally allowed to own gun

Gary Montez Martin, the man who opened fire inside a manufacturing company in Aurora, Illinois, legally should not have been in possession of a firearm, police said on Saturday.

On Friday, Martin, who had been an employee of the Henry Pratt Co. for 15 years, opened fire at a meeting during which he was being terminated from his job, according to Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman.

Ziman said that Martin shot at the person who was firing him and others in the meeting before moving outside the room.

"We believe that several people who were involved in that meeting are the ones who are deceased," Ziman said during a press conference on Saturday.

Martin killed five people in total and injured several police officers during the rampage, before being shot and killed by police.

During the press conference, Ziman named the victims, who were all employees of Henry Pratt Co.: Clayton Parks, the human resources manager; Trevor Wehner, a human resources intern and a student at Northern Illinois University; Russell Beyer, a mold operator; Vicente Juarez, a stock room attendant and forklift operator; and Josh Pinkard, the plant manager.

Felon, yet bought a gun using the legal process. Illinois will be paying big lawsuit payouts, I think.

This just isn’t fitting any of the Democrat-approved narratives.

August 3, 1995, he had a felony conviction for Aggravated Assault in Mississippi.

6 prior arrests by the Aurora Police Department, for traffic and domestic violence.

Arrested in 2008 for violating an order of protection.

January, 2014 the shooter was issued an Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) Card.

On March 6, 2014, the shooter applied to purchase a handgun.

On March 11, 2014, the shooter took possession of a Smith and Wesson 40 caliber handgun.

On March 16, 2014, the shooter applied for a concealed carry permit. Once his felony conviction was discovered, the concealed carry permit was rejected, and his FOID card was revoked.

Arrested in 2017 for Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Damage to Property.

How was it possible for a felon to pass an FBI background check?

Violating an Order of Protection is also a felony from 2008, still bought a gun?

After having his FOID revoked for being a felon, and being on record as owning a firearm, why didn’t that trigger an investigation?

This isn’t a gun control issue, this is a case by multiple law enforcement agencies failing to stop legally prohibited persons from having a gun.

Almost seems like criminals bent on killing people don’t actually care if it’s illegal for them to own a gun. /s

That's unpossible!

You'd think the law would be fireproof.

Even if the employee wasn't.

Ironically, he wasn’t legally allowed to murder either, and yet he did.

We need a law to make it illegal to illegally purchase a gun illegally...

Exactly. More gun laws atr NOT the answer.

Laws are only for the law abiding to keep them under control of the Government. Someone hell bent On killing don’t care about laws.

It is the General population’s ability to protect themselves and each other that stops some one wanting to do you harm.

he'd been there 15 YEARS! And Nobody saw this coming? Should have called him and told him not to come in and he would be arrested immediately if caught onsite..

Tell us who you want to bring your personal belongings to you.

Instead they brought him into the plant with 2 HR reps, the plant mgr, another person who probably was his supervisor. Everyone he would be hating for his firing, all conveniently in one room. And no armed security in the room or on site? .. ....

Hmmmm what could possibly go wrong?

Pretty much justified the choice to fire him. Wonder how long they wanted to, but were told by counsel, “he’s black, don’t do it?”

The answer is in your own question.

January, 2014 the shooter was issued an Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) Card.

The State of Illinois did the background check, not the FBI. Once issued an Illinois FOID card and an Illinois permit to purchase a handgun, the gun store can sell you a handgun without performing a NICS check.

"Ironically, he wasn’t legally allowed to murder either, and yet he did."

If he had any decency he would have have honored the no guns allowed signs at his workplace and waited outside to shoot them.

Check my post after yours. No doubt this asshole had been a worthless problem employee for years, but being black, they were told not to can him.
