Honda is preparing to announce the closure of its factory in Swindon, dealing a devastating blow both to its 3,500-strong workforce and ministers' hopes that the UK will remain an elite manufacturing economy after Brexit.
Sky News has learnt that the Japanese car manufacturer could disclose the plan as soon as Tuesday morning.

“...dispose of the PLANT...” ?
I think.
Hmmmmm, wasn’t aware Japan was a member of the EU.
Now, knowing that they must be for this move to make ANY sense in that respect, I understand.
Ah, whoops!
Sorry.
I just read it again and it makes sense.
Moving to Texas?
I think that’s the point
Honda makes cars in the UK for sales in the EU
The EU has picked on honda to dissuade them from manufacturing in UK and move the plant to the mainland. It is EU blackmail
I wouldn’t be surprised Honda looks to expand its Belgium operations—maybe a factory closed by another automaker.
Honda is not lacking good sales in Californicator land of zillions of vehicles.
Their new models for the last 2 years and colors are everywhere north of Gay Frisco.
They have been advertising their new Ridgelines on tv, (first new ads in a couple of years), and we are seeing new Ridgelines in this area, which is different.
Honda’s biggest problem is the long life of its vehicles.
I did have to put in the third battery of my 2007 Ridgeline this month. The vehicle is 12 years old in a few months and still looks new and runs like a new one.
If Mrs. May had befriended PT, this wouldn’t be happening. Her country’s post Brexit landing would be much softer. She chose poorly.
I don't see any indication that the EU pressured Honda.
Honda probably wants duty free access to the EU which Swindon will lose with Brexit.
They'll move production to Japan which has free trade arrangements with the EU.
They also make the Civic Hatchback sold in the US at the UK plant. Other Civic models are built here in the US; not sure why they chose to assemble the Hatchback there.
“Honda makes cars in the UK for sales in the EU”
Not completely accurate. Worldwide Honda Civic Hatchback production is in the UK. Though motors / trannies are made in North America and shipped over to the UK for USA produced models.(maybe other countries as well)
Honda does export some Honda Made in Marysville Ohio to Europe, so maybe they’ll expand Marysville.
Honda makes a good car, but elite?
