Rand Paul Is Right to Reject Trump’s Emergency Declaration
NRO ^ | March 5 2019 | Katherine Timpf

Senator Rand Paul has announced that, despite supporting improvements in border security, he will vote against President Trump’s emergency declaration on the grounds that it’s an abuse of executive power — and he’s absolutely right.

“Every single Republican I know decried President Obama’s use of executive power to legislate,” Paul wrote in an opinion piece for Fox News. “We were right then.”

Intellectually, I get the reason behind wanting to disapprove.

That said, it’s an emergency and the USA is under siege, so I can swallow my Constitutional purism for the greater good.

This is a bogus comparison. Obama wasn’t acting under statutory authority. Trump is.

Searched, but couldn’t find any time where the Republicans voted to nullify any of Obama’s National Security declarations. If they ever did, and anyone knows of them, can you please advise?

“Obama wasn’t acting under statutory authority. Trump is”

That’s the key point. If they didn’t want a President to have this authority they wouldn’t have passed the original act.

Paul needs to go back to operating on eyes and stop doing dime store legal analysis.

How many times did every Republican he knows introduce a resolution to overturn any executive order or declaration by Obama?

I called his office and the person answering the phone pretended to not know. I had to tell him that it NEVER happened. Overpaid morons.

Light up the phones. Call these clowns out.

The biggest emergency is that Congress has refused all sensible attempts to protect the American people from the consequences of an open border . . . and it’s about a whole lot more than illegal immigration.

The second emergency is the open border itself.

I guess Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Mitt Romney and Mike Lee are all on the take from the open borders folks. If you ask me, “abuse of power” is a flimsy-a$$ excuse after all that Obama did.

In a related note, I am headed to Utah this weekend to ski for a week. Anybody know where I can get a good-looking cap or long-sleeve t-shirt that says “Mitt sux”????

Don’t waste your time searching. This is all about GOP’s commitment to open borders - or rather, the GOP donors’ commitment.
