WASHINGTON (Reuters) - When President Donald Trump proposes his 2020 federal budget on Monday, official Washington will likely have a quick look, shrug and move on, marking another stage in the quiet decay of the U.S. government’s traditional policy-making processes.

There was a time when the release of the president’s budget was a red-letter day on the calendar of Washington wonkery, with policy experts and fiscal hawks delving into spreadsheets and expounding upon new spending plans and the national debt.

But the hoopla of budget day is gone, a relic of a time when politics were less polarized, the federal deficit drove political decisions and the White House and Congress still took the budget process seriously.

“The entire process has become one of missed deadlines, make-believe budgets filled with gimmicks and magic asterisks,” said Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.

MacGuineas remembers in years gone by “scurrying around” to read through the budget as fast as possible so that she could answer a flurry of calls from reporters. These days, the budget is a blip on the news cycle, a process that is neither serious...

Yeah, we remember the smirking Democrats and their snarky “The President’s budget is DOA.”

"But the hoopla of budget day is gone"

If Democrats want to poo-poo everything Trump does, it's their fault, not his. They are the dividers.

I remember Clinton as being the first not to submit a budget, but an “outline.”

It has been down hill since.......

It has been since 2009 that we had a budget.

Congress does such a great job with the purse.

Republocrats/Demicans - A pox on both their houses!

I’ve been saying for years that no Democrats, and maybe half of Republicans, cared a bit about fiscal responsibility.

It isn’t going to end well.

The last Budget was from W. Bush.
Everything under Barry 0bama was a Continuing Resolution. Barry never signed a Budget during his 8 years.
Deep state used the autopen to sign many of the Bills.

Maybe there is something to the rumours that Barry was not Constitutionally eligible to be President, thus avoided putting his neck on the line by signing stuff

10% of the budget could be eliminated tomorrow with no one noticing.

How many budgets did Obama ever present in his 8 years?

I only have a vague recollection of ONE. Everything else was “Continuing Resolutions”.....

Trump is doing his job. So many ‘new people’ in Congress, they apparently do NOT realize that it is the job of the President to present them with a budget.

“Maybe there is something to the rumours that Barry was not Constitutionally eligible to be President,”

No maybe about it, if there is a word of truth to his own version of his origins he was never a natural born citizen. He could actually be a natural born citizen but only if his biography is totally false so he would still be disqualified as president. I am not convinced that his mother was in fact Stanley Ann Dunham and I don’t believe at all that his father was in fact Barack Hussein Obama Sr. and I tend to believe that Joan Rivers was dead serious in her famous statement made shortly before her death. One day the story will be revealed as possibly the greatest hoax of all time.

Agree on all points.
The docs are all fakes.
The Father was not the Kenyan

I, too, suspect the Mother was not Stanley Ann.

The only reason why we haven’t seen hyper-inflation, carrying money in wheel barrels to the market to buy a loaf of bread, is because the whole world is in the same shape.

And you are correct, it won’t end well. Feel really bad for my grand-kids for oh so many reasons.

Those of us with an attention span longer than 3 seconds will remember the execrable "Tip" O'Neill declaring President Reagan's budget proposals "dead on arrival". The 'Rats and the 'Rat media have been communist bastards for a very long time.
