Dolly Parton 'did not approve' Elizabeth Warren's campaign's use of '9 to 5'

When Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., announced her presidential run, she did so underscored by Dolly Parton’s working-class anthem “9 to 5.” The song seemed to sum up the spirit of a candidacy built on giving workers a fairer shake.

The only problem is that the artist didn’t give her permission to use the hit.

Parton’s manager, Danny Nozell, revealed that not only did Warren use the song without permission, but that the singer doesn't ever allow her songs to be involved with any political campaigns.

“We did not approve the request, and we do not approve requests like this of (a) political nature,” Nozell told The Associated Press.

Nozell, CEO of CTK Management, did not respond to a question about whether Parton's team might register any formal complaint about Warren's use of the song, which she played during a Friday town hall meeting in New York City.

Dolly didn’t approve... but Jane Fonda (also in the Movie) would have!

Maybe Warren should use Paul Revere & The Raiders’ “Indian Reservation (The Lament Of The Cherokee Reservation Indian)”..................

Here we go again with a non issue. Trump was accused of this in 2016 by a couple of rock bands, but he took the trouble to get a ASCAP license which entitled him to play any music he wanted.

If Warren has a license so be it, if not she needs to get one.

I like Dolly, as she seems to be a fairly down to earth woman. However, it really doesn't matter what her preferences are in this kind of a case. If the campaign is paying the appropriate ASCAP fees, she has no say at all. Same thing goes for liberal ninnies who try to tell Trump he can't use their music.

I’m sure that Cher would allow Liarwatha to use her ‘Cherokee Nation’ song, lol.

Jane didn't write the song.

Pardon is sole songwriter for the song. She owns it 100%

Which would be really funny since that was Paul Revere & the Raiders.

Well good for Dolly Parton, for being a smart businesswoman and knowing that allowing her music to be politicized will offend half her customers. But, she’s no Republican, she’s come out in favor of several quite liberal causes over the years. No, she’s not a screaming leftie but she’s not one of us either, so don’t get too carried away.

She should use this song:

Hank Williams -— Kaw-Liga

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoO6XVCKDc8

Kaw-Liga
Hank Williams Jr.
Kaw-Liga was a wooden Indian
Standin’ over by the door
Fell in love with a Chocktaw maid
Over in the Georgia store

Kaw-Liga, ooh
Standin’ there, don’t never let it show
She don’t ever answer, yes or no

And he always wore his Sunday feathers
And carried his old black hawk
Maiden wore her beads and braids
An hoped someday he’d talk

Kaw-Liga, ooh
Standin’ there, don’t never show a sign
‘Cause his heart is made of knotty pine

Poor ol’ Kaw-Liga, you ain’t never got a kiss
Poor ol’ Kaw-Liga, you don’t know what you what miss
Is it any wonder that your face is red?
Kaw-Liga, you poor old wooden head

Kaw-Liga was a lonely Indian
Never went nowhere
Heart was set on the Chocktaw maid
Wearin’ the long, black hair

Kaw-Liga, ooh
Standin’ there, don’t never show a sign
‘Cause his heart was made of knotty pine

And then one day, a wealthy customer
Bought the Indian maid
Took her oh so far away
And ol’ Kaw-Liga stayed

Kaw-Liga, ooh
Standin’ there, as lonesome as can be
Ah, just wishin’ he were still an ol’ pine tree

Poor ol’ Kaw-Liga, you just ain’t never had no kissin’
Poor ol’ Kaw-Liga, hoss, you don’t know what you’re missin’
Is it any wonder, that your face is red?
Kaw-Liga, you poor, ol’ wooden head

Just a head
Just a head

Songwriters: FRED ROSE,HANK WILLIAMS SR.

Everybody records a cover of Jolene!”

Cher's attempt at cultural appropriation was her song Half Breed.

Cherokee Nation was another band.

But it was a long, long time ago, so I can see how the two would get conflated. At an abstract level, they're pretty much the same song.
