Missouri lawmaker introduces bill that would require AR-15 ownership

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A bill introduced in Missouri would require residents to own AR-15 guns.

Andrew McDaniel (R-Deering) introduced House Bill 1108 late last month. The bill would establish the McDaniel Militia Act, “which requires every person between 18 and 35 years of age who can legally possess a firearm to own an AR-15 and authorizes a tax credit for a purchase of an AR-15.”

According to the proposed bill, any person who qualifies as a resident on Aug. 28, 2019 who does not own an AR-15 would have a year to purchase one. In addition, anyone who becomes a state resident after Aug. 28, 2019 would have no later than a year to purchase an AR-15.

The bill was introduced for the first time and read on Feb. 27.

In addition, McDaniel filed a bill that would require every person 21 years of age and older to own a handgun if they are legally able to. That bill, House Bill 1052, was introduced two days prior to House Bill 1108.

According to the Missouri House of Representatives website, neither bill is currently scheduled for a hearing or on a House calendar.

Disagree with the bill as written.

Set a cap on the tax credit, and let the person decide what is the proper firearm for them to own.

Otherwise all this is is government nepotism for ar-15 makers, when his whole point of the bill is really symbolic. Don’t tell people what gun style they must buy.

In reality I dont think govt should force anyone to buy any product, or dissuade them either. Hypothetically, what if government demanded people buy health insurance? Oh wait,...

The title reminds me of John Wayne. I like it.

Could probably get part way there by exempting guns and ammo from taxes.

This is just a “hey look at me” moment. I grew up in Missouri and return to visit relatives a couple times a year. Lots of those folks already meet these objectives and some really shouldn’t try. Nice try but if you’re going to mandate something require schools to teach gun safety and sponsor competitive shooting teams. Lot of NRA members in Missouri and they would love to help the schools. In the 1960’s I carried a ‘94 Winchester in my car trunk during deer season when in high school, I cut 7th hour study hall all the way through the season

And if you don't own an AR-15 you have to pay a penalty tax, and Chief Justice Roberts said its legal.

An armed citizen is a real citizen. An unarmed citizen is a subject.

During the 1960s while in high school in California, I often carried a .22 rifle along the streets from my home while on my way to hunt rabbits. They would call the swat team if I were to do that now.

This clearly discriminates against Kalashnikovs.

Have to disagree here. There are some people who do not ever need to own a firearm.

Heck I can recall lots of guys drove their trucks to school with a rifle hanging across the rear window and nobody thought a thing about it. They even taught gun safety courses in school then as the greatest concern were hunting accidents.

All this they’re doing now is a slow walk to disarming the public..and that’s so very obvious.

Yeah, I agree,as a civil liberties exercise.
I’d not appreciate being told I have to buy an AR-15 Why not a Mini-14 or an AK or whatever.

But if he really means for a militia, then it makes sense due to parts interchangeability.

I like the sentiment, but this really does seem like a publicity stunt

That’s nothing. In my high school and Junior College, we were absolutely required to have an actual Battle Rifle stored in our closets, and carried on our shoulders and drilled with daily.

(First an M-1 Garand, and later an M-14).

(Of course it was a Military Academy, but still.... and the great thing was that High School Seniors and above, were also allowed to keep personal firearms in their lockers / closets too.) And Cadet Officers carried Sabers too.

Growing up in Missouri in the 60’s. Nearly all families had at least a 22, a shotgun, and a deer rifle. My grandad, dad and my uncle taught me to shoot. Many people my dad’s age had surplus military rifles for deer hunting. The more well to do men had pistols occasionally. The advent of scopes was a totally foreign idea to us old hillbillies. I didn’t shoot with a scope until the late 70’s. 22 shorts were 50 cents a box in the late 60’s. A militia for a state is an old idea that has the MSM hitting them with propaganda constantly. I don’t see any traction there.

And can you then imagine how it was the military couldn’t be armed at fort Hood? Just shows how ridiculous things have become.

Either way, he’s a jerkoff.

Don’t tell me what to do or what to buy, no less tell me I HAVE TO.

A jerkoff is still a jerkodd even if he’s pro 2nd amendment.
