Trump signs executive order to promote free speech on college campuses

President Trump on Thursday signed an executive order to promote free speech on college campuses by threatening colleges with the loss of federal research funding if they do not protect those rights.

"We’re here to take historic action to defend American students and American values," Trump said, surrounded by conservative student activists at the signing ceremony. "They’ve been under siege."

"Under the guise of speech codes, safe spaces and trigger warnings, these universities have tried to restrict free thought, impose total conformity and shut down the voices of great young Americans like those here today," he said.

A senior administration official said the order directs 12 grant-making agencies to use their authority in coordination with the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to ensure institutions that receive federal research or education grants promote free speech and free inquiry. White House officials say it will apply to more than $35 billion in grants.

Public universities seeking funding would have to certify that they comply with the First Amendment, which already applies to them. Private universities, which have more flexibility in limiting speech, would need to commit to their own institutional rules.

"Even as universities have received billions and billions of dollars from taxpayers, many have become increasingly hostile to free speech and the First Amendment," Trump said.

Trump had announced that such an order was forthcoming at the Conservative Political Action Conference last month, where he said the directive would require colleges and universities to support free speech in exchange for federal research dollars.

Somehow I see Misdemeanor/Probation Bike Lock Prof et al doubling down and becoming even more intolerant and violent.

Until we see real consequences for suppression of free speech, our domestic enemies will become even more emboldened.

12 Democrat controlled grant-making agencies will ignore the President’s lawful order immediately.

Parents sacrifice 100 thousand dollars to send their children to college so their kid can hate them and avoid having a family.

Parents created a valueless monster, and paid for it with a smile.

In Socialist times like these, why not just raise a Welfare Queen, who will reward you with 5 fat children?

Trump also said that these “institutions of higher learning” should have skin in the game when it comes to student loans, and students should have the right to know exactly what they can expect to gain from the degrees they are spending so much money on. These are all good things.

Needs to be arrests and prosecutions for violations of Constitutional 1st Amendment rights of College admins, professors and college SJW student cadres.

Heavy fines and serious times served. Make it hurt.

Either that, or wait for the final straw to break the camel’s back and sit back and watch the blood flow.

Those are the only two real choices.

Either the Good Men man the F*** up for a change and handle it by law.

Or the Good Men keep sitting on their hands and wait for the Bad Men to step up and do it their way.

Well, that came out ick.

Arrest those listed above for the violations. Not as I seem to have written it as arrest for violating the rights of those listed.

Me and grammar. The fight that never ends.

But I thought it was US government policy enforced by those same agencies never to challenge the climate change shibboleth.

Yay!

I thought I heard a snippet somewhere that he also plans to require universities to show what kind of jobs/pay graduates in different departments get. Maybe I was dreaming this.

Yep, if college is so valuable then universities should welcome co-signing the loans to their students.
