President Trump Backs Israeli Sovereignty Claim Over Golan Heights

The Trump administration has backed Israel's claim to sovereignty over the Golan Heights. The move comes weeks before Israeli general elections and reverses the position U.S. administrations have held for decades.

President Trump made the announcement via tweet Thursday.

"After 52 years it is time for the United States to fully recognize Israel's Sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which is of critical strategic and security importance to the State of Israel and Regional Stability!" the president wrote.

Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria in a 1967 war and annexed the territory, a move not recognized by the U.S. or the international community. For years, the U.S. has tried to broker a regional agreement that would involve Israel exchanging captured territory for peace.

Under the Trump administration, the U.S. has repeatedly endorsed controversial Israeli positions. In early March the U.S. closed its Jerusalem Consulate, which has been the lead diplomatic mission to the Palestinians, NPR's Daniel Estrin reported. It folded that job into the U.S. embassy to Israel.

Last year the U.S. moved its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and backed Israel's assertion that the city is its capital. Palestinians claim part of the city as the capital of their future state. Previously, the U.S. held that the status of the city would be determined in peace talks. After the U.S. moved the embassy, Palestinian leaders cut contacts with the Trump administration.

EXCELLENT! President Trump is gradually, carefully bringing American policy back into harmony with reality and our moral values.
Now we just wish to wake up and see the headline: “PDJT Drains the Snake Department Nazi/IslamoNazi swamp!”

I’m sure Benedict Arnold’s family was pretty upset with George Washington when he Arnold’s HIGH TREASON came to light.

Jexodus has another reason for Dem Jews to leave the Dem party. Another example of why Trump is important to be reelected by Jews. Trump is by far the best friend in the White House Israel has ever had.

Remember Carter, Clinton and Obama? The worst Presidents for our Israeli / American relationship. All Dems.

Jews should now realize Dems are not their friends they won’t even show up at AIPAC convention. Even Jews like Bernie and Schultz will be no shows.

I know, in modern times Israel has been a nation only since 1948. Barring a few months of a monarchy in 1920, Syria has been a nation since 1946. Some might say defacto in 1944. They're far older. And they controlled the Golan from 46 to 67, 21 years. And, of course, threw the Jews out. The wine industry established in the late 19th century disappeared. Israel has controlled the Golan for over 50 years now. And excepting those who consider Syria a model of stability, and Hizbollah and Iran simply friendly charitable organizations helping Syria, it's every bit as necessary to Israel's security as it was in 67. President Trump is simply recognizing reality, which imo is generally a good idea.

I would feel much better about this if Genie Energy, with such pals as R Murdoch, D Cheney, L Summers, and Rothschilds on the board didn’t somehow have exclusive rights to the massive oil in the Golan Heights and if the CEO of Genie weren’t a longtime Kushner family friend, with a key player brought in to the Trump admin in a plum position under CoS Kelly, etc.

Unfortunately, that whole dynamic re: the war in Syria, those rights, and the Kushner connection pretty much guarantees a rotten scandal to ripen probably by Trump’s second term.
