Asylum-seekers must wait in Mexico (El Paso Border Patrol sending them back)

EL PASO – In a major shift, the Department of Homeland Security is about to begin sending asylum-seekers who crossed the border in the El Paso region back to Mexico, where they will wait for their cases to be heard.

The changes under the migrant protection protocols are set to start by the end of the week. Currently, families seeking asylum usually are released within days and allowed to remain in the United States for months, and sometimes years, for their cases to wind through the court system.

In recent weeks, several hundred asylum-seeking migrants a day have been crossing through the El Paso sector, which includes all of New Mexico. Most crossed illegally – often waiting for and waving down Border Patrol – while a few dozen of those waiting to cross at the border checkpoints were allowed in each day.

“It’s a crisis because we are not ready as a city,” Jorge Muñoz, migrant relief coordinator at a makeshift shelter in Ciudad Juárez, said of the change. The shelter lies just across the border from El Paso.

Authorities in Mexico were notified in meetings this week about the U.S. plan to expand the migrant protection protocols along this stretch of border.

Under the plan the Trump administration first called “Remain in Mexico,” asylum applicants will be sent south of the border to wait while their cases move through immigration courts in the U.S. The protocols are already in place in the Mexican border cities of Tijuana and Calexico and now have been expanded to include Ciudad Juárez.

Comment from the ABQJournal: In the Journal’s “8 hours on the border” series published earlier this month, the Border Patrol recounted how the influx of families has stretched their resources. The series also reported how Ciudad Juárez is struggling to care for the thousands of migrants waiting there to enter the U.S. through a port of entry.

It's about time! The immediate solution, of course, is for Mexico to stop immigrants at their southern border. The long-term solution is obvious - complete the wall in those areas not having one: East of El Paso in Texas and west of El Paso in New Mexico. And especially that 2-plus mile section on the south side of Mt. Cristo Rey in El Paso east from Anapra to the Rio Grande River. This is how the recent influx is arriving to surrender to the Border Patrol.

The law on asylum provides that, once a country which is considered “safe” has offered asylum, other countries do not need to take them in or keep them. Mexico is considered a developed, safe country, and has offered asylum, so this move is legal.

But i’m sure some judge will decide it is not, because “Orange Man Bad”.

They have done this in at least a couple of other locations (one of which is San Diego).

I think that so far, it has just been a kind of test program, with only about 200-300 in total being sent to wait in Mexico.

It would definitely cause an immediate reaction from Mexico, if we just started dumping on them, what they are dumping on us.

Just read the article.

“By the end of the week, this will change. Most asylum-seekers will be sent back to Mexico as soon as they are processed.”

That is a big deal.

The article goes on to say “The American Civil Liberties Union is challenging the policy in court and a hearing is scheduled for today.”

No doubt the ACLU has some members who are judges, that they can run to for an injunction. Their arguments seem to be that Mexico is an unsafe Sh*thole country to make people wait in, and that it would be an imposition for Mexico to have to bear the costs of immigrants.

This has been brewing for a few months, while the program was being piloted, so both sides should have their legal arguments ready.

It would completely destroy any and all efforts to secure the border
Every single person is a human being whose life has dignity and meaning
Any person who says they believe in the Lord Jesus Christ cannot possibly state that they feel that we should shoot any innocent person
Trust in our great and wonderful President Trump to adjust policy to get the Border secured one step at a time

There really is a strong need to change these immigration hordes mindset long before they start stacking up like cordwood along the border.

This was rhetorical and the intent of my comment is that we need to do something drastic, serious, and effective. Sure, pictures of dead people would not be good. But consider that 97%, probably more like 99.99% of the people touching US soil get released into the US. Trump talks a good game but by all accounts it is talk and we get further overrun. And Trump gives priority to women and kids, meaning they become direct, lifelong burden on US taxpayers, crowd our schools, etc.

So, again, offer a solution instead of some Q-ish platitude of 'trust the plan'.

Exactly as it should be. If Mexico wants to be a conduit for the invasion of America then they need to hold them.
