White, suburban men are reaping the benefits of public construction projects in the Syracuse area, despite the city's demographics, according to a new report. Advocacy groups are sounding the alarm, before a decision is made regarding the future of the Interstate-81 viaduct in Syracuse.
The I-81 project is expected to be a massive undertaking with the potential to create lots of jobs for local residents.
Andrew Croom, staff attorney with Legal Services of Central New York, which issued the report with the Urban Jobs Task Force, said they reviewed the payroll records for five construction projects in the Syracuse area, including Hancock Airport, Lakeview Amphitheater and I-690 Teall Avenue.
“The worksite was about 88 percent white, which is only 12 percent minority,” Croom said. “When you look at city demographics, 50 percent of the city is minority. There is a clear disparity, a clear inequity between what the city looks like, and what these projects look like.”
Deka Dancil, president of the Urban Jobs Task Force, said if things don't change before I-81 reconstruction begins, a majority of the workforce would still be white men from the suburbs.

Yeah, local residents who have the skills, licenses, or certifications to do the work required. Go ahead, hire some fast food workers to run heavy construction equipment, do surveying, constructing overpasses, welding, and laying highways.

They use the term “minority” but they aren’t breaking down that term into how many from each minority group. There is a major Seneca Indian reservation in the area. There are Hispanics(who often call themselves white). Also there is a large suburban area around Syracuse that I81 and it’s bypass 481 serves. Route I90 and I690 also go through the area. There are large amounts of blacks as a percentage in the Urban core but not in the Greater Syracuse area.
Mexicans are white.

Not really. I know the whole three races concept. Caucasoid, negroid, and mongoloid, and all. But most of the Mexicans flooding in are not well described as “white”. Broadly, they are a mix of mongoloid (native American) and Spaniard (a mix of caucasian and african from the moorish occupation days)
So at best, most are a quadroon or something.

He's a journalist so common sense or knowledge of the working world is not required and in fact discouraged.
It is lost on the libs that a construction contract is supposed to get a job done promptly, safely, under budget and using best practices and duly qualified tradesmen and engineers.
And the white woman at the meeting is too busy tearing into that rubber chicken to pay much mind to the presenter, 555..... 
In South Florida, the contractors are Cuban, and English is not heard on job sites. Do those contractors use e-Verify?
