Congressmen propose more federal cash for Tesla and GM's electric vehicles

A bipartisan group of lawmakers plans to introduce a bill to expand federal tax credits for buyers of electric vehicles, in what could be a boon for the growing EV market.

The bill, dubbed the Driving America Forward Act, would grant each automaker a $7,000 tax credit for an additional 400,000 vehicles after it exhausts the first 200,000 vehicles eligible for tax credits. It would shorten the phase-out schedule to nine months. The credits are paid directly to consumers, who can write them off on their tax returns.

More cash for Tesla and Elon Musk? - Musk was forced to step down as Tesla chairman because he lied to investors. Now Musk is currently charged with contempt of court. - Musk smoked weed on a talk show, and called some guy a pedophile. - Tesla convinced New York to cough up $750M for a Buffalo plant. IF THEY’RE SO ####ING GOOD WHY IS THERE A NEED FOR INCENTIVES?!?!?!??!

I didn’t need an incentive from the government to buy my Dodge Challenger.

I’m surprised they didn’t give me an incentive not to.

Ya know gas burning and all.

Unconstitutional. Along with 90% of everything else the federal government does.

NO DAMNED SUBSIDIES! The price of the product is an approximate measure of the resources including power use necessary to produce the good. Electric vehicles obviously require more resources and ultimately more power and thus produce,in production and again over the life of the vehicle, more pollution.

Sweet car!

I always try to remind the E-car ecofreaks that Teslas and Volts, et al, are just modern coal powered vehicles. The electricity gotta come from somewhere to charge those batteries.

“over the life of the vehicle, more pollution”

As I understand it the environmental impact of the manufacture and disposal of the batteries is unbelievable.

Politicians learned long ago that a working model of graft consists of imposing taxes on everyone, then exempting your political allies. It’s beautifully deceptive in how it hides fascism in plain sight.

I just bought a new Chevy Bolt. The tax credits are MY MONEY. Besides tax credits there was a $11,000 dealer discount/rebates. It was like getting the car for $18750! Driving 20,000 mile year I will save $3000/yr on gas over electricity cost. The car will be free in 7 years! It is a fun car to drive too. 0-60 in 6.2 seconds.

Thanks and yeah how do they get away with that part?

I just looked it up. Almost 70 percent of electricity is still generated by fossil fuels!

There is 0% chance current EV technology will completely replace our current gas powered vehicles. There is not enough of the rare earth materials used to make the batteries and the magnets in the motors to do so.

Of course they’re going to bundle all these goodies in one giant omnibus bill as close as possible to the deadline so Trump is backed into a corner again.
