It's on.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called the election for May 18.
He says the people of Australia have a clear choice about how the nation will be managed for the next three years.

It's not an impossible situation - but the conservative side of politics is definitely the underdog going into this election.
Well, we have Brasil and Eastern Europe still.
I really hope Eastern Europe develops into some kind of economic and military strong point.
I just don’t know enough about those countries to hazard a guess.
If be runs a really good campaign he stands a chance. He has pegged back Labor recently. Shorten is still terrible to listen to. Lots of people concerned about his gender policies etc. Labor want to make it about the cost of living and will probably get a fair bit of traction on that. Its a toss up!
There has been a lot of leadership changes in both parties over the last decade, several Prime Ministers have been ousted by their own party in the middle of their terms.
For the ‘conservative’ side (the Liberal Party), it’s been a reflection of the war between the conservative faction and the more left leaning faction along social issues.
To be honest, the Libs need time to have their civil war over if the party remains conservative or drifts further left. Problem is that it also means that Labor (think Democrats) forms government.
Expect some rough patches between the Trump administration and the incoming lefty Australian government.
So it’s not possible for conservative voters to hang up on pollsters like we do...and then get it wrong?
The question that occurred to me is if you're allowed to cast a blank ballot. One would assume you are...it's hard to imagine how they'd track you down if it was illegal.
I shudder to think what would happen if registration and voting was mandatory in the US...I'm very glad that it's not.
You can cast a blank paper ballot if you want, there is no way for anyone to know how you did or did not vote.
You just need to turn up, have your name checked off the electoral role, take the ballot papers, go to the voting booth, marvel at the cavalcade of clowns, fold the unmarked papers up, drop it into the ballot box, and pick up your sausage sandwich on the way out.
So you've got them Down Under too? LOL! And BTW,are you referring to the voters, the candidates,or both?
Living in a liberal (which means leftist here in the US) suburb of a liberal state I'm known to write in my own name for the Senate, the House and other offices. But I did vote for DJT.
Canadian election coming up later this year. There is a good chance the son of Castro may fall to the Conservative Party led by Andrew Scheer.
A little from column A, and little from column B...
I live in the People's Republic of Canberra, so imagine Washington DC with the morals of San Francisco... Not a place a conservative feels all that comfortable or welcomed.
As Dundee says, yes, you can cast a blank ballot. Strictly speaking you’re not supposed to, but the secret ballot means there’s absolutely no way of policing it.
I don’t like compulsory voting - but it’s not likely to go away in the near future here.
Sure - the polls could be wrong. But they’ve generally proven pretty reliable in the past, so there’s no specific reason to doubt them.
There is time for them to change though.
The people smugglers have the boats engines revving.
Shorten would have a hard time projecting himself on the world stage. Has no charisma and his head looks like it’s been squashed in a vice. Probably has lol
