COLOMBO, Sri Lanka—Sri Lankan officials believe an Islamist militant group was behind the Easter morning attacks that killed at least 290 people and wounded another 500, Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne told reporters.
Officials had said previously that another country had warned that the group, known as National Thowheed Jamath, was planning attacks in Sri Lanka, but the warnings weren’t specific enough to effectively act on and didn’t include hotels or tourist sites as potential targets.
Mr. Senaratne said there is no specific evidence connecting the group to the bombings, but that authorities see it as the most likely organizer. He said all the bombers were Sri Lankan citizens.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Authorities took 24 people into custody in connection with the bombings, making arrests in several locations in and near the capital, Colombo, where the bombings were focused. There were at least eight explosions, most blamed on suicide bombers.
Six of the attacks were coordinated and were carried out by seven suicide bombers, according to a preliminary examination of scattered body parts by the country’s official experts. Two men appear to have blown themselves up at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo, said Ariyananda Welianga, a government investigator who studied the bodies, while single bombers attacked two other high-profile hotels and three churches.
The suspected bombers’ heads and limbs were severed from their torsos in a way consistent with suicide attacks, Mr. Welianga said. His experience with such cases goes back to Sri Lanka’s civil war, during which a Tamil insurgent group carried out suicide bombings, he said. The civil war ended in 2009.
The analysis of material recovered from the explosion sites also showed that metal balls had been attached to the bombs to inflict shrapnel injuries in addition to blast injuries, Mr. Welianga said.

In this case...going back to the 800s to 1000, Arab traders were an integral part of the Indian Ocean trade situation, and Islam was introduced into the country. Unlike invasion situations throughout the Middle East...this just quietly at the time, introduced itself into Sri Lanka. For roughly 700 years, this trend lingered on, and the Portuguese reshuffled the deck upon their arrival....moving Islamic communities to certain parts of the island.
My humble guess is that this scenario will open up a Buddhist discussion (they make up around 70 percent of the island’s religion), and like Myanmar from three years ago....there will be an effort to push Islamists off the isle entirely. The Buddhists have a simple philosophy....as long as you just quietly do your thing and don’t threaten anyone, you can have your ‘thing’. Once your ‘thing’ crosses the line and becomes a problem...you need to leave. So it wouldn’t surprise me if you see a fairly turbanant period starting up in Sri Lanka.

Even Fox Business this morning referred to the attacks as being the work of local militants; no description of who and no mention of Islam or Muslims. So disappointed in the censorship.

That paragon of Democratic presidency, Woodrow Wilson, faced with a similar terrorist dilemma, deported radicals to Europe. It followed Palmer raids and was part of the Red Scare. Yet Dems still lionize their guy.
Come to think of it, they still lionize FDR. He sent a shipload of Jewish refugees back to Europe, many to their deaths at the hands of the Nazis.
Today, we’re called deplorables for loving a President who does great things for his country while Democrats cling to presidents doing what they’d call horrible things today.

It’s muslims. Stop pussyfooting around WSJ, it was an Easter massacre of Christians because Islam is a militant death cult founded by a conquering warlord. And its adherants are now members of our Congress.
It is a cancer on the world.

There can be no lasting reformation of Islam. Mohammed was “the perfect man” who enslaved the victims of his militant conquest and kept a child bride.
The “reformation of Islam” can only come when muslims reject the bastardized text of Mohammed and return to the Bible as Jews or Christians. That’s the only reform.
Fox and other networks have partial Saudi ownership. The kabosh comes from above.
