Trump, sons sue to block House Democrats from obtaining his financial records

President Donald Trump is going to court to try to block a Democratically-controlled congressional committee from obtaining his financial records through a subpoena. The lawsuit is the first case where Trump has sued to try to stymie House Democrats' investigations into the President. But the court filing is only the first skirmish in what's likely to be a multi-front war between House Democrats and Trump, the White House and the President's businesses.

Trump and the Trump Organization filed suit Monday to stop the House Oversight Committee -- chaired by Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland -- from obtaining financial records from Mazars, an accounting firm that Trump used to prepare financial statements. The committee subpoenaed for 10 years' worth of Trump's financial records after the firm requested a so-called "friendly subpoena."

Good. He is not letting the Dems push him around with their unreasonable attacks.

Trump was a private business man, so they have no real justification for getting his records, just harrassmentv and a fishing expedition.

Why don’t they obtain all the tax records of congress critters who became multi-millionaires while in congress?

The committee subpoenaed for 10 years’ worth of Trump’s financial records after the firm requested a so-called “friendly subpoena.”

“Friendly” subpoena? This means they have no problems WILLINGLY turning over their clients’ financial records as long as a CYA subpoena is given to them. They won’t even legally “fight” the subpoena.

Anyone who starts or continues using Mazars as their accounting firm after seeing this is foolish.

But one would think there has to be some justification, some evidence of wrongdoing, not just wanting to see it, in case they can find something.

And when Obama used the IRS as a weapon, that wasn’t the first incidence either..doesn’t make it legal to do it w/o a seriously good legal reason.

He’ll release his docs when Obama released the Fast and Furious docs the GOP House subpoenaed.

Go present your evidence that a crime has been committed to a federal judge in order to obtain a search warrant for those records. Secondly, convince that judge how those alleged and suspected crimes affects legislative decisions and thus have standing in the case.

Do the Democrats not think this will happen to them? Are Senate committees ready to go after Democrat’s financial records?

In this case, with five years of tax submissions....there roughly 1,000 to 1,500 pages of primary records. But it would mean nothing unless you eyeball something, and then ask for the financial copies or contracts behind those submissions...so you dig. Then you’d ask why he was given a $100-million loan for 3-percent interest, or why this loss was counted on real estate transition. Week, after week....this ‘digging’ would continue on. It’s not exactly the Trump family in the barrel....there’s probably a dozen banks, and various property speculation partners in the mix as well. All of this....based on nothing illegal, just looking and you need to explain this to me or face some jail-time.

You might as well call it a ‘truth-commission’, except you won’t know the truth until the very end, and it’s fairly complicated.

All Americans have 4th Amendment rights against unreasonable searches and seizures. The Trumps are no exception. I wonder why their lawyers are not arguing the case on 4th Amendment grounds.
