Michael Cohen, in Recorded Phone Call, Walks Back Parts of Guilty Plea

Michael Rothfeld 8-10 minutes

Michael Cohen has disavowed responsibility for some of the crimes to which he has pleaded guilty, privately contending in a recent recorded phone call that he hadn’t evaded taxes and that a criminal charge related to his home-equity line of credit was “a lie.”

As he prepares to begin a three-year prison term on May 6, Mr. Cohen, President Trump’s former lawyer, expressed dismay during the conversation that after testifying for more than 100 hours to federal and congressional investigators about his work for Mr. Trump—including the coordination of hush-money deals with two women—he remained “a man all alone.”

“You would think that you would have folks, you know, stepping up and saying, ‘You know what, this guy’s lost everything,’” Mr. Cohen said during the March 25 call, recorded without Mr. Cohen’s knowledge by the actor and comedian Tom Arnold. Mr. Arnold, a vocal critic of President Trump who first made contact with Mr. Cohen in June, provided the recording to The Wall Street Journal for review.

I couldn’t get past the WSJ paywall but here’s a CNBC (sorry) story on what he said.

Cohen is dumber than a box of rocks. Who the hell thinks it’s a good idea to become phone buddies with Tom Arnold?

Mike, you were warned to keep some distance between you and Tom Arnold. Tom is a Wacko-Bird who cannot be trusted.
You chose all the wrong friends and a lawyer who used to work for Hillary! Not very smart, Mike.

GOOD! I hope his life for the next three years is “fulfilling!” Isn’t it amazing how a poor business decision (like hiring your personal attorney) comes back to bite you in the a$$!” I will bet you odds, that Trump isn’t going to give this turncoat a pardon either.

So, why did he wrongly plea?
Shouldn’t the story be the pressure brought upon him by Mueller’s team? That would create more sympathy maybe
This supports my opinion of Cohen that he is a few bricks shy of a load.

What do you want from a guy who pleads “guilty” to things that aren’t even crimes.

I wonder if he even knows what his name means: “Michael” (literally, Hebrew for “Who is like God?”) and “Cohen” (Hebrew for “priest”).

It’s real simple, he needs to send himself an email saying “I did everything by the book”. That seems to have worked for Barry’s administration.

Your post got me wondering. What if Trump DID pardon Cohen? Would Cohen refuse it? (Can a pardon be refused?) What would be the fallout? Would Cohen be better off serving his time, instead? Hmmm.....

Mueller had his hand in what the Feds in New York were doing on their case against Cohen. He was under pressure to plead guilty under a lesser charge and agree to talk to the Mueller investigation, or his wife would be dragged into a more serious charge with him. So he lied, to get the deal he was offered.

Frankly I do not think the true object of justice is to get any conviction at all, no matter what. I do not find “deals” ethical, and many are not even “just”. When prosecutors will do anything at all just to get some kind of conviction, you are not dealing with justice, it’s a shakedown.

The entire matter of going after Cohen was NOT about Cohen. It was getting a legal hook on him with which to raid his files to see what dirt on Trump could be found in them. It was 100% a deep state operation trying to serve up something for Mueller et al.

Let’s not forget that Mueller was head of the FBI when the Obama administration started letting FBI & DOJ “contractors” get unredacted unrestricted no FISA warrant U.S. persons data on searches in the NSA database of ALL GLOBAL telecom data. That is what Admiral Rogers ended and later told Trump about shortly after Trump was elected. Trump knew from the day Mueller was made Special Counsel that Mueller was conflicted.

No wonder Roseanne dumped his sorry a$$. No wonder Richard Cohen’s all alone. He lets his conversations get recorded by Tom Arnold.

Depending on what State this happened in Arnold could very well have broken the law by doing this.
