I feel sure that Trump has studied the history of the Lincoln presidency. Lincoln took nothing but **** during his four years in office. He would have received the same ration for the next four years had he not been assassinated. We remember Lincoln as a cool, collected President, more sinned against than sinning. The GOP screwed up royally in '15 & '16 by letting Mr. Trump join the fray. They saw him as a foil for Jeb! and were more than happy to sell him the "R" brand and take his entry fees to state primaries, cauci, etc.....but they won't make THAT mistake again.

1. Get elected by throwing red meat to the base (i.e. the can actually articulate the issue and recognize it is a problem.

2. Stage a public fight on trying to ‘do the right thing by the voters’.

3. Make a deal behind closed doors with the D’s.

4. Come up ‘just short’, call for a need to elect more GOP, take whatever largess came from the deal, and get ready for reelection.

This describes the GOP since Reagan left. Bush basically ran the whole thing for the last 30 years as a CIA op.
