Denver does the right thing – City says NO to homeless camping initiative

Denver, Colorado residents might be as high as the Rocky Mountains but at least they have enough sense to overwhelmingly REJECT homeless encampments in public spaces!

It’s time for “First Thoughts.”

Denver’s initiative 300 – which was sneakily and misleadingly deemed the “Right to Survive” measure – was rejected by a wide margin last week!

The measure would have reversed the mile-high cities' 7-year ban on “urban camping” – AKA pitching tents, creating blanket shelters, or sleeping in cars in public spaces.

If you live in California, you know what “urban camping” looks like all too well.

Proponents of this so-called “Right to Survive” measure argued that being able to turn parks and other public spaces into homeless encampments is a basic human right.

Um, wrong. Allowing the homeless –some of whom are drug addicts and ex-cons – to turn public places into their own personal oasis is not a basic human right, it’s an encroachment, infringement, and eye sour to residents who have every right to enjoy their tax-payer funded spaces for their intended purposes and activities.

Denver’s mayor added urban campsites are, “unsanitary, they're unsafe and they're unhealthy."

They are also dangerous. Kids and families should be able to play in parks and other public areas without being hassled for money, step over human feces, trash, make-shift shelters, and the occasional needle.

Long ago, idiots who proposed ridiculous initiatives were tarred, feathered and run out of town. Law and order were installed to make life better and safer. Now we have law and order in turmoil, and everything is going to sh*t. "Right to Survive" will mean having a gun as things get worse.

A better solution for them than the "camping" proposal:

  1. Illegals - go home!

  2. Legal citizen loonies - reopen all the loony-bins which the liberal-loonies closed, and put them there.

  3. Legal citizen lazy bums - "Get A Job" (song link).

“...or sleeping in cars in public spaces.”

god knows, I’ve done that a few times over the years. Not because I was homeless - but because I was travelling, got tired and thought I’d go the cheap route by sleeping in the car.

I’d pull off in a town somewhere and look for a Wal-Mart parking lot. I’d park far enough away so that I wouldn’t be disturbed but to any people driving by, they’d think it was just a parked car with no one in it.

I couldn’t imagine living in my car but in a worst case situation, I’d make it work.

In other news, the Democrat governor of New Mexico supports unrestricted illegal immigration, but her cities are filling up and overwhelmed already, so she is putting illegals on buses and shipping them to Denver.

I wonder how quick Coloradans realized they are being used as a dumping ground, so put up checkpoints on their border crossings and have state police turn those buses around?

we’ll see how this plays out in light of the 2018 “Boise Decision”.

Our dear 9th Circus court said (in short) if you order some vagrant off of public property, you have to provide them a safe place to re-locate.

My town (Olympia WA) is over run by bums and crazies. They thought they were making headway on finding “Humane” alternatives for these “people” until the Boise decision.

Arkansas was hot and muggy as we pulled
off the interstate that night, and rolled
the windows down to sleep.

And hour later, there were enough
mosquitoes in the car to lift it
off the ground, it they chose.
We drove on to a motel. LOL

The homelessness thing is definitely becoming a crisis quickly

There of been numerous detailed studies done on the subject

The vast majority are bums and drug addicts

Many have mental problems

Don’t hold your breath. The liberal Democrat controlled legislature is hot on it and will overturn it.

The kind of mental problems that we should be worried about? Especially women and children? Then again, Coloradoans can medicate themselves with pot and mushrooms.

The Denver voters did the right thing. The government of Denver allows the camping of bums to occur in varying locations. One such downtown camp is on the other side of a see through fence at an elementary school. Certain parts of Downtown Denver are no camping zones. Other parts are cool for camping. Other times they chase the bums out of one side of the street and the bums relocate to the other side of the street. And yes, even though there is a law, it is selectively enforced.

California Central Valley - Local Noon News had a story on how levies are in danger of failure resulting in floods. Reason homeless encampments along rivers and under freeway overpasses have been digging into the levies (was not clear why)

For those not familiar with California much of the land around Sacramento and towards the delta (then the SF Bay) is below the river level. The land is protected by levies.

If it was not so serious I would laugh. At the time I was growing up every city had laws against vagrants and begging on the streets.

Since then the ACLU has stripped cities of these laws and we are seeing the results. Los Angles and San Francisco nothing but third world slums with bums camping (and urinating, and crapping where ever they like). Use of drugs is both open and a danger to the community (because they just toss their used needles anywhere). Diseases once thought gone from our civilized nation have returned.

Add to that the change in laws so crimes of less then a certain amount are tolerated.

When did the citizens of our nation lose our rights and the worse of us gain super citizenship status?

I told my daughter that if this passed she should sell her wonderful home and move to a gated community.
