More millennial men are choosing to live with their parents compared to previous generations, according to an analysis by J.P. Morgan.
Using Census microdata, the bank’s researchers found that the millennial generation — which is “far from monolithic” and is broken down into early, middle and late stages — has been “reaching lifecycle milestones later in life than prior generations,” and in particular, has been moving into their own households at a “slower pace than their predecessors.”
The difference in behavior compared to Baby Boomers and Gen Xers is most pronounced with middle millennial men (born between 1986 and 1990) and is deepened with late millennials (born 1991 to 1995).

The first generation of men raised on soy formuka, almost exclusively.. just saying.
Any millennial man still living with his parents is not a man.
Millennials are skeptical of the military, they view it as an imperalist machine.
They can’t afford to rent an apartment or their own home.
Wages are a bit stagnant.
They need the maturation, but like I said,
even taking the oath would be a stretch for them.
My 32 year old assistant is a fine example...
raised my sons on soy formula.
Very manly, owns his own properties, hard worker.
I think the biggest obstacle for them was that my wife and I have an upper middle class lifestyle and it was tough for them to leave that luxury and basically live paycheck to paycheck for a few years. We never helped them with the bills either. They are doing much better now but definitely had some lean years after they left.
I know time change, and conditions and circumstances change. But, back in my day, me and friends wanted to be on our own, were eager to be on our own, even if it meant living in a small apartment, using milk crates for furniture, etc. And then having the incentive to work hard, go to school, make something of ourselves, and work our way up to better things.
The whole outlook on life has changed for a lot of people growing up today.
Some realize it’s not worth it to strike out on their own. They to keep more of their assets, and keep their wealth out of the hands of the government and women.
One of the enduring memories of my involvement in a local business leadership group is a conversation I had with a mid-level executive with one of the Fortune 500 companies headquartered in my area. She was telling me how much difficulty her adult children were having in staying afloat in the area (they were still living at home in their late 20s). Here's how the conversation went:
ME: "What's going on with them?"
HER: "They simply can't afford to live here."
ME: "Why don't you sell them your home, since you're looking to downsize anyway?"
HER: "My home is worth $1.2 million. They couldn't afford that if two of them bought it together." (Apparently the thought of selling it to them for the same $400,000 it would have been worth without a government-inflated real estate bubble never occurred to her.)
ME: "Then have your company hire them and pay them enough money to afford it."
HER: [Completely baffled look on her face.]
That's the story in a nutshell. The ranks of the leadership in our top private companies are filled with people like this who have reached the age of 60 by leveraging a career path and a real estate bubble into a $1.2 million asset that nobody other than a family of 25 Mexicans can afford.
And her kids will eventually end up in Texas or North Carolina when their jobs move there.
But, but, but there are SOOO many zombies to kill....
When I was 20 I took a 2,000 dollar loan from a bank and used it to move away from my parents.
Agreed, a 4 year military sting would be in order. But, they are not “kids”. The age span, according to the article, is from 1986 = 33 years of age, to 1995 - 24 years of age. Pretty pathetic of the millennial’s but every more so of the parents for allowing it.
Rent is reaching 1800 dollars a month around here. For a one bedroom apartment. Houses are 1 million+ for a 1 story 1200 foot house. To me, Until I get enough money saved up to afford a house, it’s wiser for me to pay half my mother’s rent and stay here. In turn, allowing both of us to save some cash. by your logic, being fiscally responsible and attempting to live within my means, is not being a man. For the record, I am a journeyman medium duty truck mechanic and trying to get my own business off the ground, not some barista or burger flipper.
Yes, the current 20-24 yr old UMP is higher than that in the later 1960s and most of the 1950s. But the current crop of 20-24 year olds sure seem to be relatively better employed than at most recent time periods.
I've said this before and I'll keep saying it. I fail to see why everyone loves to bash Millenials. Sure, they have their fair share of pod-eating Antifa-loving snowflakes who were all-in on Bernie and Hillary.
But the Baby Boomers were pretty stupid in their youth - have we forgotten about the 1960s and then Disco? Every generation is dumped on by the elders, but in general they get more conservative as they age and turn out to be fine, upstanding citizens.
Most of the Millenials I know are either Deplorable or Centrist. Lately, they've become more horrified by their snowflake-bretheren, and are generally responding by doubling down on conservatism. Some 'kids' who may have chafed at Trump in 2016 are now thinking that jumping on the MAGA train isn't such a bad idea.
Given that Trump won by 76k votes, we need all the help we can get. I would encourage all people who reflexively bash Millenials to consider maybe inviting one or two of them that you know out to the range or something to loop them in to Camp Deplorable. If we don't, we run the risk of President Kamala Harris outlawing ammo while some of us middle age people wonder why the young ones didn't respond 'appropriately' to being ridiculed.
