Justin Amash, tea party star, earns primary challenge for backing impeachment

Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan says he enlists social media to do something unusual: explain why he bucks his party in terms his constituents can understand.

The 39-year-old Republican, who was the youngest member of the freshman class in 2011, states his approach succinctly: “I defend liberty and explain every vote here.” The simple formula has turned the libertarian, who rode into the House on the tea party wave, into something of a sensation. In 2012, the Independent Voter Network called Amash the “coolest member of Congress.”

Amash’s latest decision — to state publicly that President Trump engaged in activity worthy of impeachment — could be the hardest yet for him to explain to Republican voters, 9 in 10 of whom oppose impeachment, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted in April. […]

And on Sunday, it prompted an intraparty rival, Michigan state Rep. Jim Lower, to declare he would run in the Republican primary next year for Amash’s seat. …

This current guy (Amash) voted with trump 92 percent of the time

Some votes are simply too good for the nation to vote against, but more importantly, he just read the Mueller report as a roadmap to impeachment despite no findings. He needs to go on that basis alone.

They're lured to the dark side by the promise of glowing articles in the mainstream media. Their star burns bright for a bit, then they disappear forever until the next time you see them, all they have left to say is "Welcome to WalMart."

I can’t see reports of a second challenger. Got a name?

Michigan Industrial tool is the name of amash family business.

Not only is he antisemitic but he was also the only gop rep to vote against defunding planned parenthood. This dirtbag needs to go long ago!

I think his major backer was amway owner Dick Devos, who is also educ. Secretary Betsy Devos’ husband. Devos called amash his right hand man.

“WAKE UP GOP...YOU ARE QUICKLY LOSING YOUR BASE...”

All these long years and you have not yet figured out that this is INTENTIONAL?

THINK!

Why was globalist G.W. Bush a GOP darling?
Why was brother JEB! the Presidential candidate the GOP wanted?
Why did the GOP HATE the Tea Party?
Why does the GOP HATE Trump?
Why does the GOP regard Conservatives as and extremist fringe?

The GOP ARE NOT standing up for The Republic; not any more than the DNC.

This guy was a Never Trumper from the start. He openly boasted that he would not vote for Trump back in 2016. The media is playing this like it’s a Trump supporter who read the Mueller Report and had a change of heart and now favors impeachment. He was virulently anti-Trump from the start. I would love to see the President roll into his district the weekend before the Primary and squash this bug at a rally for his opponent.

Either he has changed dramatically, or the tea party was snookered. The tea party types I know would have tarred and feathered this guy as a flim-flam artist.

Pox on Amash— smash him in the primaries.

Yeah, he needs a good shot to the primaries. Probably doesn't have any to begin with.

Honestly, I don’t care if he voted with Trump 100% of the time. No sane person could read that report and think there were impeachable offenses. I’d rather have a mostly reliable person with some honest policy differences than a lowlife scumbag trying to abet a coup.

No. He has NOT changed. Not at all. You are just finally seeing him for what he is.

He’s always been a Paultard libertarian, rather than a conservative. He’s never had any loyalty to the party and his loyalty to the country itself is questionable.

Paultard libertarians specialize in lying to conservatives to get elected. They have to since there own constituency of peacenik drug addicts is too small to win on it’s own.

Liberals have no problem lying and saying they are conservative. It would be anathema for a conservative to pretend to be liberal to get elected.
