“Assume no one sees you on a bike”
That is why they ride in groups, still its dangerous out there.
I don’t ride on the street any more, if I did I would choose my routes wisely.

I had 4 motorcycles, rode about 140,000 miles total. Sold the last one in the early 90’s, too unsafe to ride anymore.

NH native here.
And yes, the noise of the bikers was incredibly unwelcome by any normal folk. IMO your right to raucous noise pollution ends where other Americans’ right to relative peace and quiet begins.

Bikers who ride together seem to really stay close at times. That creates a moving bowling lane for any truck or car to wreck havoc on.

No information on the truck driver in the source article. I wonder which protected class he or she belongs to?
Odds are good that his/her name has not been released simply because they are among the fatalities, and that’s pending the dignity and human support of notifying next of kin in person, rather than seeing it alone while watching the news, still, I can’t help but wonder.

We could hear them from far off as they approached. We always wondered why motorcycles were allowed loud pipes but not on vehicles? You touched on one reason given. A driver who wouldn't see anything smaller than a car (and that's most drivers) can still hear them, and is therefore alerted to their presence.
I LOOK for motorcyclists, and even I nearly flattened one I didn't see against a cluttered background.

Since the pick-up was towing a long, flatbed, goose-neck trailer, I’d surmise it was a local....but ICBW

A kid here in Texas killed 13 people on a church trip because he was texting - video shows him weaving for miles before the wreck.

Only Portsmouth has put their foot down on motorcycle noise. “They bring money, y’know”.

A lot of guard rail ends are protected by sand-filled barrels, even in infrastructure-declining California.

I LOOK for motorcyclists, and even I nearly flattened one I didn't see against a cluttered background. Coming into town, a biker was being tailgated by a pickup truck. His one headlight merged with the pickup's left headlight. The biker was not happy when I pulled out in front of him.

IMO your right to raucous noise pollution ends where other Americans right to relative peace and quiet begins. WOW, how non-libertarian of you.
I've been on threads here on FR where the *libertarians* have told people who object to their imposition of their lifestyle on others, that if they don't like it, THEY can move.
While I appreciate the libertarian philosophy, encounters with FR libertarians have left a bad taste in my mouth for many of them.

Around here in Los Angeles, they give away drivers licenses to anybody. Are all the road signs bilingual? If not, how can they pass the "written test" (now done on a screen in CA)?
