Beto Unveils New 'War Tax' That Would Tax Non-Military Families

Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke released his new proposal to tax non-military families via Twitter on Monday.

O’Rourke’s “war tax” would require American families who make over $200,000 a year to pay $1,000 for each war embarked on by the United States. Military families would be exempt from the tax.

The tax “would serve as a reminder of the incredible sacrifice made by those who serve and their families,” the proposal reads. It does not specify the types of military engagement that would constitute a war under the tax.

Funds from the "war tax" would be deposited into a veteran's health care trust fund.

O’Rourke, who served on the House Armed Services and Veterans’ Affairs committees, introduced the tax under his comprehensive plan for veterans entitled “Caring For Our Nation’s Veterans.” Other parts of the presidential hopeful’s plan include ending both wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, establishing a veteran’s health care trust fund for every war the United States enters, modernizing the VA, addressing mental health, ensuring equal treatment of women and LGBTQ+ veterans, and preventing veteran homelessness.

In his tweet announcing his plan, O’Rourke said that “This country must be willing to pay any price and bear any burden to provide the full care, support, and resources to every single veteran who served every single one of us.”

This country must be willing to pay any price and bear any burden to provide the full care, support, and resources to every single veteran who served every single one of us.

My new plan will ensure that we finally do.

O'Rourke's proposal comes after he has been lagging in the polls in recent weeks. He currently receives 4 percent support among likely Democratic primary voters.

Great idea.

Along with that, bring back the draft. No deferments.

One way to end endless wars is to make sure EVERYONE ends up in the fight.

Yea, yea, I know...volunteer military better then having problem people in mil. But you know, it ain’t fair. And even this plan resembles the old practice of paying others to serve your comittment, something that happened in the War Between the States.

Just put everyone in the game, then we’ll see how they like it.

How about, if we are taken to war, each member of Congress loses their salary until the war is over?

The Left is SOOOOOOOOO bummed that it hasn’t been able to get a good anti-war protest movement going since 1975.

How is he going to define “military family”? How will they administer the new taxes to be collected?

I think this is just a futile attempt to court the “military” vote, which generally would not be favorable for someone like Beto.

I’ve got a much better idea: Tax self described “progressives” 50% of their income. They certainly shouldn’t mind since government does many things that they like.

So the solution is to draft people, which will require more money to train, house, feed, and cloth them.

To do what? Teach them a lesson for having a military...by having a military full of draftees that have nothing to actually do?

Tiny little problem. When’s the last time Congress actually declared war on another country?

Hillarious. Good point. Missing in Beto’s tiny brain.

I'm guessing that more of his perfumed princes and princesses make over $200K annually than ours. I'm guessing that even fewer of them have a family member in the military.

So! There is plenty of money to buy munitions from the military industrial complex when we decide where next to lose a war. How about no taxes for war, unless someone actually invades us. (As is happening on our southern border.)
