Pompeo...capture of British-flagged tanker: Up to ‘United Kingdom to take care of their ships’
Fox News ^ | Greg Norman |

Posted on 07/22/2019 12:23:27 PM PDT by BenLurkin

Pompeo said the “the United States has a responsibility to do our part, but the world’s got a big role in this too – to keep these sea lanes open.”

He added that Iran’s recent behavior should alarm nations around the globe.

“We don’t want war with Iran. We want them to behave like a normal nation. I think they understand that and I think the whole world is waking up to the fact that this threat is real,” Pompeo told "Fox & Friends." “It’s not just a threat against America, it’s not just a threat against Israel. It’s a threat against all of us.”

May, speaking to reporters Monday, again demanded the release of the British-flagged tanker.

"The ship was seized under false and illegal pretenses and the Iranians should release it and its crew immediately," she said, according to Reuters. “We do not seek confrontation with Iran but it is unacceptable and highly escalatory to seize a ship going about legitimate business through internationally recognized shipping lanes."

Good answer.

“The world”, if it wants to keep its sea lanes open, should organize patrols in the Persian Gulf to protect shipping. We can back it up, but we should not be on point. Let the Brits, Norwegians, Japanese, the ones whose ships are under attack, step up. We can back them up, but let them be on point.

And, isn’t it time for the Saudis to build pipelines out to the Red Sea? Or out through Oman? They need options just for things like this. Maybe they have them, but I’m not aware.

The US offered some assets to help. Help was turned down.

There you go, it’s all yours now.

It’s the Brits that dragged us into WW1 & WW2. They will fight to the last American.

It took “the world” quite awhile to figure out how not let their ships be captured by khat chewers in duct-taped skiffs off the Horn. The Iranians are a whole lot more sophisticated and its going to take a good bit of throw weight to deter them.

Between the Japanese and Royal Navies, they COULD keep the strait open.

Easily.

But they won’t. They would prefer to outsource it to us.

Yes, let the UK defend their own ships. Sure, if they need help defending themselves, maybe we discuss it again. They are a failed state today, killed off by their inbred monarchy, welcomed invasion of Islamic cult, and over-the-top PC that destroyed their culture and heritage. Sad demise.

...

Do they pay us for the outsourcing?

Exactly. So much for the myth of James bond propaganda by the limeys. That’s we kicked them out of the country centuries ago because they’re weak..

We were drawn into the Gulf years ago by Iranian gunboats harassing shipping, and we started escorting them in and out.

Iran has started up again, thinking (I suppose) that war with us is better than dealing with the sanctions. Maybe Kerry has assured them that war will trigger impeachment, or something... I can't help believing Iran has back door comms with the DNC, or the DNC's owners.

Push comes to shove, we can close the Gulf to Iranian shipping while keeping it open to everyone else's... But it could get nasty.

May said, May said. Twaddle! May displayed to the entire planet what a total squish and pushover she is when she didn’t have the spine to follow through on extricating the UK from the EU plantation. So the ragheads in Teheran must be snickering into their teacups over her wimpy demand to return her tanker. Merrye Olde England needs someone with cohones to be in charge. Drop a cruise missile down the ayatolla’s chimney.

Very true. Britain has been transformed.Never again should Americans sacrifice material and precious human treasure on their behalf.
While it is true that the Royal Navy does not have enough ships to escort all the British owned or flagged tankers, they cold have stationed Royal Marines on each of those ships until they cleared the Strait of Hormuz. But face it. Britain no longer has the inclination to even defend its own borders

Let the navy of the Lyin’ Limys look after their own ships.

If this goes like the Falklands War the Brits should have their tanker back around the time the US returns to the Moon.

One of the very best answers I have heard of yet.

The “world” had better wake up and tend to their own business and quit bashing the US when they do it for them.

I don’t want to have to pay taxes to be the world’s cop.
