This diversity lottery is the most INSANE part of our screwed-up immigration law. It was devised by Teddy Kennedy to inflict Maximum Damage.
If you are some brilliant PhD with top-notch technical skills from India and you apply for a Green Card, you are in for an 8 to 10 year trip through Bureaucrat Hell.
Whereas any random bloke can walk in off the street in Yemen, toss his name into a hat in our embassy, and become the lucky winner of one Green Card.
Islamist hellhole countries actually get priority over “oversubscribed” countries, which is absolutely nuts!
I once spoke to an Irish guy who won the diversity lottery. He told me he had entered it as the result of a pub bet with his friends! And once he won, figured, “hell, I may as well go”.
These are NOT the immigrants we want coming to this country.
The Army will probably pick him up on an H1B.
Kazahkstan has released a statement:
“It’s not true, as Borat said, that our national pastimes are ping pong, disco dancing, and rape. Only the first two are national pastimes. The third is just a hobby.”
That lottery should be ended.

He “won” that lottery the same way Whitey Bulger won that lottery in Boston. Whoever got the winning ticket got a minor payoff, and the ticket went to the big guy. Corruption works in similar ways all over the world.

Sounds more like (Russian) roulette than a lottery...
When Trump put a hold on immigrant entries from certain countries to try to find a way to better sort the requests, it was destroyed by the liberals and it fell back into the mold established by federal law.
The eligibility criteria for an applicant to adjust status under the DV Program is you must establish that you:
Have been selected for a diversity visa by DOS’s lottery;
Have an immigrant visa immediately available at the time of filing an adjustment application (Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status);
and are admissible to the United States.
If you check this website put out by Homeland Security, you’ll find there are many admissions of behavior or political beliefs inconsistent with our societal needs and political stance.

But unfortunately that’s the ruling operations and decisions criteria for admission. And it opens the door for many different types of problems from public safety to a lack financial responsibilities.
