Each time a mass shooting strikes one of our communities we grieve. We gather our loved ones. We reach for answers and clamor for action. Each time, for a moment, it feels like this time will be different.
But then the news cycle rolls on. And we push down the gut-churning knowledge that it will be only a matter of time before it happens again. Between El Paso and Dayton only about 13 hours elapsed.
Republican leaders try to prevent action and parrot N.R.A. messaging — as Donald Trump did last week when he said, “Mental illness and hatred pulls the trigger, not the gun.”

He’s already stated that he’s going to be TAKING OUR GUNS. The question is whether he can later convince the 5 to 10 million DEMOCRAT gun owners that he was only kidding.
...and that’s why it’s difficult to see them letting him on the November ballot. It will have to be someone who can make a somewhat credible case that, at least to Democrat owners, as to why they don’t have to worry about gun grabbing.
They key phrase in the headline says it all. The President can “push” all he wants.
In the end he pushes a pen. And unless there are going to be 60 democrats in the senate there is zero chance that there will be any law suggesting an assault weapons ban.
Neither Biden, Harris, or Trump will be able to make any difference. Not in the next 6-12 years or so.
A ban will fix nothing but its failure will be an excuse for more draconian infringements. That’s why the ban must be opposed, even by shooters who wouldn’t be affected by one.

....which have essentially been banned since 1934, for all but the elite (those with the money to afford them AND the governments permission.
The things that the politicians and the snowflakes want banned now are merely of the same appearance, but not function of “Assault Weapons”.

I clicked on through to the NYT article. And then started reading the comments. Nearly all are wholeheartedly supportive of Biden’s ban. One commenter, obviously clutching her pearls stated that “in Georgia people can buy a rifle without a permit”. I believe that is the case in nearly all states, except for places like NY, NJ and CA.

Instead nullify all gun control laws. ALL.

The “militia” mentioned in the 2nd amendment was defined in several rulings by the SCOTUS as a body of citizens organized for military purposes. They then went on to say that when summoned to appear as members of the militia, they were expected to appear with weapons supplied by themselves and of the type in common military use at the time. (Presser vs Illinois, Miller)
Accordingly, the firearms that that citizen militia should have access to should have the most direct military utility of those available. For example, the AR-15 in 5.56 NATO configuration is the closest modern equivalent to the Brown Bess musket. It’s ammo is interchangeable with standard military ammunition, almost all of it’s parts; save those of the fire control group that enable selective fire options, are interchangeable also.
Semi-auto fire from an individual non belt fed shoulder firearm is superior to full auto fire for most tactical situations anyway, save for gaining initial fire superiority, suppressive fire, the final stages of an assault, and when firing along final protective lines in a defensive situation.
We must not be afraid to DEMAND access to military grade firearms, of whatever type, for the individual militia soldier. The 2nd amendment ain’t about shooting bunny rabbits. It is about protecting the community from internal and external threats, and opposing tyranny. In short “necessary to the security of a FREE state.”
