Brexit Secretary Signs Order To Scrap 1972 Brussels Act - Ending All EU Law In The UK
Gov.UK ^ | 08/18/19

Posted on 08/18/2019 3:20:07 PM PDT by Enlightened1

The 1972 Act is the vehicle that sees regulations flow into UK law directly from the EU’s lawmaking bodies in Brussels.

The announcement of the Act’s repeal marks a historic step in returning lawmaking powers from Brussels to the UK. We are taking back control of our laws, as the public voted for in 2016.

The repeal of the European Communities Act 1972 will take effect when Britain formally leaves the EU on October 31.

Speaking after signing the legislation that will crystallise in law the upcoming repeal of the ECA, the Secretary of State for Exiting the EU Steve Barclay said:

This is a clear signal to the people of this country that there is no turning back - we are leaving the EU as promised on October 31, whatever the circumstances - delivering on the instructions given to us in 2016.

The votes of 17.4 million people deciding to leave the EU is the greatest democratic mandate ever given to any UK Government. Politicians cannot choose which public votes they wish to respect. Parliament has already voted to leave on 31 October. The signing of this legislation ensures that the EU Withdrawal Act will repeal the European Communities Act 1972 on exit day.

The ECA saw countless EU regulations flowing directly into UK law for decades, and any government serious about leaving on October 31 should show their commitment to repealing it.

That is what we are doing by setting in motion that repeal. This is a landmark moment in taking back control of our laws from Brussels.

The Global Elite will NOT like this. They don’t like to see their little controlled minions rebel.

I did not think they had it in them to tell the EU to take a long walk off a short pier. They are on step closer though.

There are very powerful forces determined to prevent Brexit. I wouldn’t bet much more than a nickel that it actually happens.Europe’s swamp is at least as malodorous as ours...if not more.

“...The Global Elite will NOT like this...”

Yes and this is why it is so very important. The Globalist agenda is based on the weakening of the participants...except the power holders. The UK just did the EU countries a BIG favor in spite of the fact many are so devoted to socialism.

Yea, it’s bad there. I remember Mark Steyn talking about meeting a former ‘conservative’ Prime Minister there and Steyn asked him why his country kept becoming more Leftist/Fascist during his reign. He said that was because the UK Deep State simply doesn’t take orders from #10 that they don’t like. That simple.

Of course it’s possible that the former PM was also Deep State, or maybe it was a combination of both. In any event, Boris is doing great so far, so maybe that guy actually was Deep State after all.

Yep, I was also thinking that. If the UK can break clean without destroying its economy, then the other EU-skeptic states will be MUCH MORE LIKELY to also break loose, possibly starting with Italy or Hungary.

I'm certainly no expert but the London papers reported just last week the the Speaker of the House said he will not allow Boris Johnson to prevent a final vote of Parliament on Brexit which,it's said,is the only hope to avoid Merkel & Pals being victorious.

This is what they need to do. And I read another article about the UK saying it will cut off freedom of travel from the continent after Oct 31. This is also a good negotiation tactic. They need to be prepared to walk away completely if they cannot negotiate a fair deal from the EU. They are always free to make new laws that are in line with being good neighbors but they need to scrap all the laws and regulations imposed on them by Brussels.

They’re just tired of losing sovereign decisions to Brussels in general. I don’t know (or remember) if there was a single issue that broke them but I do recall I was actually in London for a week leading into the Brexit vote and there was a lot of talk about how Brussels was making so many regulations on how a teapot should be made.

Don’t know if that is true or note - but if you want to tick of a Brit, mess with their tea.

Just saying, the teapot thing - whether true or not - is symbolic of a government out of control with absurd regulations and the fact that these rules were further removed from British citizens and Parliament. At some point too much interference in their lives will cause people throw off the yoke.

Maybe the Democrats will learn that lesson in 2020.

Their tea :)

Is that a reality or just a stereotype on TV and in movies?

Tea and some kind of biscuit I see a lot on movies :)

It’s a GOOD move. Germany can be VERY bossy and controlling. (as we know from the 20th century)
